This awards recognition for putting the Appaloosa in the public eye for wider competition/participation than within the Appaloosa breed itself. For example, a CZ member may attend shows hosted by ETI (Equestrian Trails Inc.) and submit results to the CZ Pointskeeper to be tabulated for CZ year end awards. The owner will receive a “Calizona Certificate” that entitles the horse to participate in the All Breed program (and Parade/Trail Divisions, see respective Division information below) as long as all other requirements for this Section B are met. Calizona Operating Rules 2017 Approved: November 12, 2016 Page 10 of 11
CALIZONA HOSTED PARADE AND TRAIL RIDING DIVISIONS
1. Participants must be members of the Calizona Appaloosa Horse Club to be eligible for Year-End Awards.
2. Members competing for Year-End Awards must have on file with the Pointskeeper a Points Declaration Form for the Parade and/or Trail Riding Divisions with a filing fee of $5.00 per person per Division (Parade Division is separate from Trail Division), and ApHC registration papers or a Calizona Certification (see item 7 below). It is the responsibility of the Member to see that the Points Declaration Form is in the Hands of the Pointskeeper prior to an event for which points are intended to be counted.
3. Members competing for Year-End Awards based on participation credits must participate as a rider in a minimum of three (3) Calizona sponsored/pointed parades as part of the Mounted Group and not as an individual for the Parade Division or a minimum of three (3) Calizona sponsored/pointed trail rides to qualify for Parade or Trail Riding Division year-end awards.
4. For Calizona sponsored/pointed Parades and/or Trail Rides, an entry official or designated Calizona Parade/Trail Ride Marshal at the parade or trail ride event must verify participation. Verification of participation shall be noted by placing the Member and Horse’s registered/certified name and entry number (if applicable) on the Parade/Trail Ride entry form or flyer. A form or flyer from the parade/trail ride verifying name of rider, date, signed by a Entry Official or designated Calizona Parade/Trail Ride Marshal including the phone number of that person, must be submitted by the Member to the Points Chairperson within thirty (30) days following the event. Should any of the required information be omitted on the form, the points for that event will not count towards Year-End Awards.
5. Rules for qualification are the same as for any award given by Calizona with regard to membership dues, and length of show/parade/trail ride season ending no earlier than October 31st of the current year (see General Rule #11).
6. Parade or Trail riding participation credits may be accumulated by participating in only Calizona sponsored or pointed events. Each one horse/one rider combination with a points declaration on file for the respective Division will earn one (1) participation credit for participating in the event.
7. Year End Awards will be computed on a one horse/one rider basis. In the event of sale, death or injury to horse, such that the combination is unable to compete for the rest of the year, a statement from the owner shall be submitted to the Board of Directors for approval of a new horse. Any other change need to be brought before the Board for review and decision.
8. Year-End Awards will consist of a patch and award certificate or other suitable award as determined by the Board of Directors to be purchased by Calizona or provided by a sponsor of the Club.
9. For horses that are not ApHC registered but meet minimum ApHC registration criteria except for known parentage (e.g, color pattern, white sclera, striped hooves, minimum height etc), a minimum of two (2) current Calizona Directors may “certify” the horse by physical inspection as an “Appaloosa” to participate in the Parade or Trail Riding Division (or All Breed Division, see the Section above) only. The owner will receive a “Calizona Certificate” that shall be presented at all Calizona sponsored/pointed parades or trail rides to indicate the horse is eligible to represent the Appaloosa breed in a public forum in which Calizona may participate and may partake in Calizona’s Parade or Trail Riding Division year- end awards.
Calizona Operating Rules 2017 Approved: November 12, 2016 Page 11 of 11
10. Other persons related to a Calizona member with non-Appaloosa horses are welcome as Calizona members and may participate in Calizona’s trail rides but are not eligible for year-end awards. These members and horses are also not eligible to ride as part of the parade group or participate in public forum events (i.e., Appaloosa breed demonstrations) except by the express approval of the Calizona Board of Directors.
Parade Division Example: Leslie, Debbie & CJ have Parade Division point declarations on file, ride as part Calizona’s Mounted Parade Group in respective events, meet the requirements, and accumulate participation credits thus earning themselves a patch or respective annual award (e.g. 2013 CZ Parade Rider).
Trail Division Example: Paul & Larry have Trail Division point declarations on file, participate in Calizona’s hosted or sponsored trail rides, meet the requirements and accumulate participation credits thus earning themselves a patch or respective annual award (e.g. 2013 CZ Trail Rider). This award is different from the All Breed Division award because they only rode on Calizona’s sponsored or pointed rides and did NOT participate in any rides by outside organizations that were not pointed/approved by CZ.
THESE RULES SHALL NOT BE DELETED FROM, ADDED TO OR OTHERWISE CHANGED IN ANY WAY WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS UNTIL THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING TYPICALLY HELD IN DECEMBER 2016. BY-LAWS CAN ONLY BE CHANGED WITH A GENERAL MEMBERSHIP VOTE.
BOD Confirmed changes at January 10, 2017 meeting.
