1. SECTION TITLE

For the Section Title use the Style MSS_AR_Section. Text. Please use the Style MSS_AR_Text. All papers must be in good English. US English is preferred. In 1877 the United Principalities fought the war of independence from the suzerainty of the Ottoman Empire and in 1878 became the independent Romania. As a political act, by special law, on March 29/April 10, 1879, the Romanian Academic Society changed its name to become the Romanian Academy (Academia Română 2007,

 54, Splai Independentei Bd., Building X, Room 34, 700111 Bucharest, Romania. E-mail: [email protected]. Second author (SA) e-mail: [email protected]. Name of the Author(s)

p. 33-24), thus making a bold step forth. In the new era of independence so opened, developing the national industry, science and technology was a necessity. The following paragraphs show the style of long quotations, that must be emphasized by a specific formatting. Also shown is the style of endnotes. According to the Statute of the Romanian Academy from 1879, (see Statutes of the Romanian Academy, 1879, in (Academia Română 2007), pages 34-39),

“ Article 14. The Academy periodically publishes the Annals that will include both its proceedings and administration works and the literary and scientific works approved by the Academy for this purpose. The general form and the division of this publication will be determined by a special procedure.” [Our translation.] i Please use the style MSS_AR_Quotation

2. TABLES, FIGURES

The subsequent examples provide styles for tables and figures. Please use these styles.

Beyond the Annals and the three series of Memoirs – all these included under the generic name of Annals – starting 1879 the Academy also published independent reports as brochures and books, like “Materials for the Climatology of Romania, by Şt. C. Hepitesii, or reports on plants like that authored by C. Istrati (see Fig. 1).

The number of reports has varied from year to year. The reports, authored by members of the Romanian Academy, were extensive and the reason for publishing them apart the Memoirs was, probably, twofold: the reports constituted papers not presented in the sessions of the Academy; moreover they were intended to address a larger audience than that interested in the whole Annals of the Academy.

3 Name of the Author(s)

Fig. 2 - The covers of Tomes XVIII and XXV from Series II of the Memoirs of the Scientific Section – Annals of the Romanian Academy. (Style: MSS_AR_FIG_Legend)

During Series II, the name of the journal was “Memoirs of the Scientific Section” (Memoriile Secţiunii Sciintifice) and appeared in smaller fonts, after the main title “Annals of the Romanian Academy” – see arrow on the left panel of Fig. 2.

3. EQUATIONS

Equations should be aligned according to the pattern:

n x x2  y (1) i1 i i

4. CONTENT OF THE MEMOIRS DURING SERIES II

Here is an example of Sub-Title:

4.1. THE SUB-SECTIONS MAY OR MAY BE NOT NUMBERED

For the Sub-section Title use the style: MSS_AR_Sub_Section The numbering of sub-sections is not mandatory:

THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF SUB-SECTION NOT NUMBERED 4 This is the Colon-Title to be provided by the authors

You can remove the numbering by left-clicking on the subsection text, then select Bullets and Numbering, then select in the Numbering Menu “NONE”.

5. CONCLUSIONS

A section of Discussion and Conclusions, or a section titled Conclusions (or using a similar wording) should end any paper.

Acknowledgments. I thank ... Acknowledgments and Authors’ contributions may end the text of the paper. These sections are not mandatory, because possibly a single author has performed the research and wrote the paper, moreover he has no reason to acknowledge support from any grant or help from anyone. When two or more authors contribute a paper, they should clealy state their contributions, like in the example: Authors’ contributions: XY designed the experiments and the methodology; XY and ZW conducted experiments; ZW and TU analyzed data; TU and XY wrote the paper. For Acknowledgements and Authors’ contributions use the style MSS_AR_Acknowledgements

REFERENCES For the References Title use the style MSS_AR_References The preferred style for quotations is the CSE citation-sequence style (style A below). However, CSE name-year is tolerated for papers in disciplines that use it. NOTE: Because several styles of writing the references are in general use, moreover because the Journal includes papers from various fields, we accept two styles of writing the references, namely:

STYLE A: All references are in alphabetic order; they are identified by numbers, in the order they appear in the Reference list.

[1]. AUTHOR, INITIAL, AUTOR, INITIALS, and AUTHOR, INITIAL, Title of paper, Where it is published, ISSN, year, pages. In the text, they should appear with numbers only, for example:

In a resent research [1], Taylor illustrates the influence of the ….

STYLE B: All references are in alphabetic order; they are identified by the name of the first author and the year of the publication.

5 Name of the Author(s)

AUTHOR, INITIAL, AUTOR, INITIALS, and AUTHOR, INITIAL, Title of paper, Where it is published, ISSN, year, pages.

In a research (Babeş 1905), Babeş illustrates ….

The authors will recognize that the two accepted styles follow largely the CSE citation- sequence system, respectively the CSE name-year system (author’s name + date is given in parentheses). See http://www.dianahacker.com/resdoc/p04_c11_o.html for details.

When the article has no known author, the sign ⁂ should be used instead. Please check examples:

ii We also found (at http://openlibrary.org/b/OL6591033M/Serviciulu%CC%86-meteorologicu%CC%86-in-Europa, accessed May 3, 2009) a mention on the volume “Serviciulŭ meteorologicŭ in Europa, by Stefan C.
