Store all the Science by Doing Student Guides in iBooks

1. Open your internet browser, go to www.sciencebydoing.edu.au and login.

2. Open the Student Guide tab and click on the student guide of your choice.

3. When it has opened touch the iPad screen in the top right side to reveal the button Open in “iBooks”. Press this button and the pdf document will become a permanent part of your iBook collection for future use.

4. To advance through the guide swipe pages to the left. Or touch the screen at the bottom to reveal a scroll bar showing every page.

5. To put the guide away press the Library button at the top left of your screen.

Accessing the Student Digital

1. Open the Student Guide of your choice.

2. You will see on some pages there are links to the Student Digital.

3. Press on a link and your iPad will swap from iBooks to your internet browser and take you directly to the relevant part of the Student Digital.

4. To return to the guide press the home button and then iBooks and you are back in the Student Guide.

How to browse Flash websites iPads do not support Flash. There are several interactives and videos that require Flash support to run successfully on your iPad. Download a Flash Player app like Photon Flash Player (about $5 USD), available in the App Store. Open Photon and type in the Science by Doing URL www.sciencebydoing.edu.au to open the Student Digital page that required Flash support (e.g. Circle of Life, Activity 2.2, Food chains). Press the Lightning button in the top right of your screen to engage Flash support. You will now be able to view the digital material.

How to view JNLP files. iPads and other tablets do not support the viewing of JNLP files.

Science by Doing has incorporated a number of simulations from Concord Consortium and the University of Colorado’s Phet site which are JNLP files. For these activities you will need access to laptops or computers with Java installed.
