DAN’S DESK… Well I have great news to share about an exciting event coming to our Parish toward the end of Lent! You have probably heard that a First Class Relic of St. John Paul II has been given to our Diocese and was received just last month at St. Cecilia’s Parish in Wilbraham. The relic is of a piece of Pope John Paul II’s blood stained shirt that he wore when he was shot by an assassin many years ago. It has been given to our Diocese by the Diocese of Krakow, Poland – the birthplace of Pope John Paul II. Pope John Paul II was such an influential presence in our Church for 27 years as our Pope. Many of us lived during his lifetime and he was declared a saint of the Church just a couple of years ago! I have invited those who are coordinating the visitation of the Relic to some parishes in our Diocese, to bring the Relic to our church on Wednesday March 25 at 7:00PM for a special Mass in which all the faithful who attend will be able to venerate the relic and receive a special blessing. The Mass will be our Wednesday Evening 7:00PM Mass during Lent, and it will be the week following the conclusion of Fr., Gary Caster’s Lenten Series. I have invited Fr. Daniel Cymer, Parochial Vicar at St. Cecilia’s Parish in Wilbraham, to be the Celebrant of the Mass. Fr. Cymer was instrumental in helping the Diocese to receive this Relic. I am also inviting our Contemporary Music Group – “Psalm 33” - who provide the music for our Sunday Evening once a month Mass, to provide the music that night, and I am extending a special invitation to our Parish Youth Group – The JP II CREW – to come to this special Mass, along with all their parents and team leaders, and celebrate the Faith of this inspirational man who is their namesake! I anticipate this Mass will be well attended by our parishioners, as well as our local community! Please mark your calendars and do not miss this wonderful spiritual opportunity being offered to our Parish!!! Most of you know that the 2015 Westfield Colleen – Kristen Bonsall - is a member of our parish. I have invited Kristen and another member of her court - Kensi Riley - who is also our parishioner, to a special “St. Patrick’s Mass” to be held Saturday March 21 at the 4:00PM Mass. We will celebrate Irish Heritage and Faith. Please join us for Mass and for our “Family Irish Night”, which will follow the Mass in our Parish Center! I am happy to say that we have three new members of our Parish Pastoral Council – Steve Murphy, Sue Murphy and Jack Brida. These wonderful parishioners have agreed to serve on the Council and I am grateful for their time and service! The other members of the Parish Pastoral Council are Mary Regan, Mikey Hebda, Joe Hebda, Art Cicerchia, Barbara Burns, Bob Stack and Kathy Harrington. Ex-Officio Members include Deacon Paul Federici, Mary Federici and Deacon Paul Briere. Each parish in the Diocese is asked by the Bishop to establish a Pastoral Council according to guidelines given by the Diocese. The role of the Parish Pastoral Council is advisory to the Pastor, and our primary focus is on “Evangelization” – how we can best invite people to our parish and engage them and our regular parishioners in the social and spiritual dimensions of the faith and our parish life. The Parish Pastoral Council is involved in the selection of speakers for our Parish Lenten Series each year, as well as other events and activities which welcome people to come to the parish. If there is anyone else interested in serving on the Council, please contact me for more information! And if you have not had an opportunity yet to hear Fr. Gary Caster, please make an effort to attend the special Wednesday 7:00PM Evening Mass during Lent for our LENTEN SERIES – “A SHORT COURSE IN LOVE”. Fr. Gary will be speaking at those Masses, and I think you will find him very engaging. Also, we are adding a Thursday Morning 9:00AM Mass for Lent, and Fr. Gary will be celebrating that Mass and offering a synopsis of his Lenten talk from the night before. This may be especially helpful for some of our seniors or those who don’t like to drive or go out at night! We thank Fr. Gary for being with us this Lent! Just a reminder that each week of Lent, I will be hearing CONFESSIONS in the Chapel of the Church on Monday Evenings from 7:00-8:00PM, in addition to the regular confession time of 3:15 -3:45Pm each Saturday
