Dear prospective Jamesville-DeWitt Student-Athlete, Hi, it’s that time of the year again! The coaches just wanted to drop a quick note letting you know a few things about trying out for the 2017 Varsity or JV Girls Tennis Team:  The Varsity team’s 1st practice will start promptly at 8:15am on Thursday, August 17, (rain or shine) at the JDHS tennis courts; the JV team’s 1st practice will start promptly after the Parent Meeting on Saturday, August 19. Bring sunscreen, a water bottle, and please don’t be late! Each practice (Monday through Friday only, with no practice on Labor Day) prior to the start of classes will be two hours long. However, please note that there will be an additional JV practice on Saturday, August 26 as well. JV practices will start at 9:45am each day. Tryouts for making the team will extend through the first Thursday with challenge matches starting on Tuesday, weather permitting. Please note that matches have been scheduled prior to the start of school as well. Please check the JD Athletics website for those matches! Please plan your summer vacations/work schedules accordingly.  All incoming 11th and 12th graders (and others receiving permission from Coach Sul or Coach Goldberg) will report to the Varsity practice. Everyone else, please report to the JV practice. The coaches may make a change to your level as soon as after the first day, if warranted.  If cuts are made on the Varsity team: no 7th and 8th graders will be kept on the Varsity roster unless they project to be one of the top 6 players on the ladder, 12th graders should be one of the top 11 players on the ladder, and no 9th or 10th graders will be kept on the Varsity roster unless they project to be one of the top 11 players on the ladder.  Informal “Open Court” with Coach Sul will be held at the JDHS tennis courts Wednesdays 9-11 AM from July 5 through August 2 (weather permitting).

We hope that each of you will be keeping in shape and eating properly. Play tennis several times before the season starts to break in your (new) equipment and get over those pesky blisters on your hands and feet. Please do not purchase expensive items until you are certain you have made the team. Be prepared to do much running/conditioning the first several practices as well. The expectation for players on the varsity team is to be able to run an 8:30 mile on the track. We really look forward to having a fun and successful season. Enjoy the rest of your summer! Must have record of a current, valid physical exam on file in the nurse office. A current and valid physical means, within the past calendar year from the first day of the month in which practice begins for that sport season.

Physical dated on or after: 8/1/16 JV/V Fall Sports and Modified Football 9/1/16 All other modified Sport.

Must be registered in Family ID – registration opens 30 prior to the start of the season. Family ID July 19-Aug 9 JV/V Fall Sports Registration July 29-Aug 23 Modified Football Aug 7-Aug 28 All other Modified Sports
