Parapro Training Superintendents, Curriculum Agenda March 17 – 18 Directors, Principals, Participants

12:00 – 5:00 – Participants may bring lunch with them. Please stress the importance of being on time.

Class is closed. Handout is a list of the participants registered from each system.

Note: Activities will be rain or shine! Dress will be casual – sneakers are appropriate.

The group of 90 is being divided into two groups of 45.

Science Topics:

1) One group will meet at the OK Swamp because of the new classes they will be offering at the Swamp.

2) The other group will meet at OK RESA & tour Southern Forrest World w/Lisa Durrance -Playground activities w/Francis Gattis -Understanding DOK w/Dr. Oliver -Fun w/Science w/Mr. Mark Mooneyhan

It is a full schedule of activities for both days. Please express to your schools that the training starts at 12:00 each day. Each participant needs to be here at noon.

Participants are welcome to bring their lunch w/them each day. They will have time to eat during the beginning of the training.

Dress is casual because participants will be doing lots of walking and throughout the swamp and while at RESA.

I did not get a response Superintendents, Curriculum None Thinking Maps for from anyone so I assume Directors, Principals New Teachers there is not a need at this time.

Attached is a summary of the results. We are analyzing the results to help with future planning.

Superintendents, Curriculum Registration None This course is required Directors, Principals deadline: for several GaTAPP March 1 pathways. It provides Registration basic fundamentals of deadline extended until March 12th Reading Instruction.

It is open to all teachers. There is no cost for GaTAPP teachers; other teachers’ tuition is $50 (1 PLU). Mary Lane James will be teaching.

Course dates: March 5, GaTAPP Reading Essentials 19, 26 Time: 4:30 – 8:00

Mrs. Mary Lane has a broken arm and will be in a sling for two more weeks. She has requested the class to start March 19th instead of the 5th.

When the class meets for the first night they will collectively decide on a 3rd night of class.

Profile Manager Training - SLDS Hubert Bennett, GaDOE Superintendents, Curriculum Registration None Directors, System level personnel deadline: March 2 will be the presenter for that creates/assigns access to SLDS this session. Register HERE

This session is scheduled for the System level person that creates/assigns access to SLDS within the System’s Student Information System (SIS). We will look in-depth at how the D5U (District Super User) should manage the applications that a user can see in SLDS. With all of the recent applications and the upcoming applications, it is more imperative the D5U maintain a secure and confidential ROLES structure within SLDS. This 2 hour workshop will also include hands- on experience in creating and maintaining ROLES within SLDS. Participants should bring a laptop to the training. Training is at Coffee PLC. Date: March 6 Time: 10:00 – 12:00

Fitnessgram Booster Session Will be held at Coffee Co. Superintendents, Curriculum Registration None PLC Directors, PE teachers deadline: March 2 March 9 Register HERE 8:00 – 3:00 Must have a minimum of 20 participants for class to make. Coffee Co. had 20 participants and a large room to host.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD) and eating disorders. Is there an interest in bringing this training here? Interest from majority of the group **Spoke to the trainers today and their first available dates are the week of May 18. I know this is not a good week since it is the last week of school. Would it be better to try to schedule:  Week of May 25  Week of June 1? Please let me know which of the above weeks you would prefer by Tuesday, March 3. At this training Superintendents, Curriculum None None participants learn Directors, Principals, strategies for integrating more physical activity in the school day and create action plans based on their own school survey data. Each school sends a team of three staff members to attend (an administrator, a PE teacher, and a classroom teacher). We must have at least 8 schools interested to hold the training. In order to ensure the sustainability of the SLO process, the Georgia DOE is providing training for district level personnel who will or may be required to facilitate the Trainer for development or review of SLOs District in your district. By completing this training the participants will receive a district certification on their TLE platform.

7 of the 8 superintendents Curriculum Directors N/A None traveled to Atlanta to meet with the legislators from our area. We provided lunch for the group and they listened to our concerns about many proposed bills. Recognized at the House for being there -Meet w/Jim Dixon Superintendents -Were able to meet to Atlanta w/majority of the area representatives that were there -Very positive visit

-HB170: Extra funding is being divided between the RESAs. Also, redirected a large sum to the RESAs from the DOE to keep the Educators on Loan.

Dr. Bill Daggett March 24, 2015 at City Curriculum Directors, March 17 None Auditorium. Please bring Superintendents school administrators/ Register HERE leaders/Boards of Education members. This training is only being offered at 4 locations in the state. -Please encourage your systems to register if they are interested. -We’ll reach out to other area RESAs to send their people too. -This training is being offered in collaboration with Ware Co. & GAEL. GAEL is covering the cost of everything. -Snacks & Drinks will be available for purchase from RESA. Additional Information/Notes:

Principals Academy (March 10 th ) (R. Robbins): Class was cancelled per Dr. Lairsey & Mr. Cochran. Majority of participants will be at a conference. All participants have received an email notifying them of the cancellation.

P20 (R. Robbins): -This appeared to gear more towards colleges

Science/Social Studies Surveys (R. Robbins): These surveys are similar to the ELA/Math surveys that were done last year.

Media Specialist Consortium (C.Hitt): -Jim Farmer & Cindy Hitt will be teaching a course on March 20th for the Media Specialist -Reviewing technology and other resources available for Media Specialist -Currently 24 registered -If you have people in your system that would benefit them from this training please have them register. -Register HERE -Registration Deadline: March 13th
