Equipment Fabrication: Mobile Operator Workstation Console
Humans and Automation Laboratory Massachusetts Institute of Technology November 23, 2005
A core element in the HAL Complex Team Operation Center will be four mobile operator workstation consoles. Each of these workstation consoles will comprise a solid, yet mobile support structure for a reconfigurable, multi-monitor operator display component consisting of the SpaceDec triple monitor support and three 17-inch flat panel LCD monitors, and a shelf or wire rack to house the operator computer workstation (see Figure 1).
To stabilize the weight of the reconfigurable, multi-monitor display component, the SpaceDec monitor support must be permanently affixed to the workstation console using the provided bolt-through post assembly into a 35mm-75mm thick drillable surface. A 9mm drill hole will be required. This is illustrated in Figure 2.
To enable easy reconfiguration of the operator workstation consoles within the Complex Team Operation Center, the operator computer workstations will: - be housed on a shelf or wire rack permanently attached to the workstation console, and - sit on lockable wheels.
While each of the parts can be purchased separately (displays, tables, posts, etc.), significant fabrication effort is need to build each workstation and then connect the many computer-based devices.
