Using Basic Lab Equipment

DIRECTIONS: Read each directive carefully before you begin on the task. Talk over the task with your lab partners to determine the best method. Remember to use each piece of lab equipment safely and carefully. Record your responses (findings from your tasks) on the lines provided.

MATERIALS PROVIDED: beaker, dropper, metric ruler, tweezers, corn kernels, water supply, graduated cylinder, spoon, goggles (1 per students), waste container, balance, juice can lid, funnel, three washers **NOTE: Before you begin the tasks, obtain 600 mL of water in the larger waste container. You will use this water for the liquid tasks.

I. PRACTICE WITH LIQUID MEASUREMENT

TASK RESULTS 1. Starting with an empty beaker, transfer water into the beaker by using the spoon until the beaker holds exactly 30 mL of liquid. Count the number of spoonfuls it takes to complete this task. 1. ______
