TITLE: Director of Development DEPARTMENT: Development REPORTS TO: Executive Director MANAGEMENT: Provides supervision to two development staff
Classroom Central seeks a qualified and results-driven, full-time Director of Development to cultivate, sustain and grow financial and in-kind giving to support the agency’s mission and strategic vision.
Position Summary: The Director of Development Director reports to the Executive Director to accomplish the fundraising goals and objectives needed to support the mission of Classroom Central. The Director of Development is responsible for planning and implementing strategies that meet (and exceed) all budgeted revenue goals while advancing agency fundraising activities by providing leadership for major gifts and annual campaigns, special events, grant submissions and reports. The position involves the cultivation and stewardship of stakeholders including: event participants, committees and volunteers, major gift donors, individuals, corporate sponsors, community and faith organizations, and the Board of Directors. This position also requires the ability to be creative, set priorities, make quick and sound decisions, problem solve, work toward goals, work independently and as a team member, motivate others and act professionally in dealing with staff and the public. Good communication, problem solving skills, a pleasant demeanor and a bias towards action are essential.
Essential Function/Responsibility Fund Development a. Work with the Executive Director, volunteer leadership and staff in cultivation and solicitation of top donors and sponsorships by individuals and corporations in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties. b. Provide strategic planning and best practices implementation for special events, campaigns (to include in-kind supply drives) and direct mail appeals. c. Engage and cultivate donors and stakeholders across all platforms while utilizing the moves management plan. d. Assist in securing corporate donors and sponsors across all revenue streams. e. Provide leadership and direction for the timely submission of grant proposals and reports. Be prepared to write grants and/or foundation reports during peak seasons. f. Provide leadership and direction for all special events, working closely with the volunteer committee and appropriate development staff. g. Work closely with all fundraising and agency staff to engage event participants. h. Develop and oversee an Annual Fundraising Plan to ensure that financial expectations are met. i. Work with the Executive Director to implement donor recognition and stewardship strategies. j. Assist Board of Directors and other leadership volunteers in training and/or solicitation as requested. k. Ensure all activities are implemented professionally to achieve the funding goals and good community relations.
Staff Management/Supervision a. Provide leadership, strategic management and supervision for assigned development staff. Revised February 2016 1 b. Perform employee goal setting, monitoring and review to ensure success of development team members. c. Serve on the agency’s Leadership Team.
Administration and Finance a. Develop a comprehensive annual development plan to include revenue projections, campaign budgets and timelines. b. Produce and analyze data and reports as needed for the Executive Director and volunteer leadership. c. With Executive Director and volunteer leadership, develop and implement long-range strategic fundraising plans.
General
a. Collaborate with Director of Communications on all public relations, event and collateral material needs to support the development plan.
b. Make public presentations about Classroom Central, our mission, and organization.
c. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising is required. Proven track record of success with raising a minimum of $850,000 in annual contributed revenue with an emphasis on developing and growing individual and major gifts programs is preferred. Skills/Competencies Required Ability to build relationships, secure commitments from individuals and corporate partners to support fundraising activities and events; manage difficult or complex situations and/or people with tact, confidence, and diplomacy. Ability to travel to meet with donors and prospective donors, corporate partners and community leaders throughout Mecklenburg and surrounding counties. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to exude confidence in public speaking situations. Strong project management/event planning proficiency. Self-starter who can work independently as well as with a team and can operate in a fast-paced, changing environment, following timelines and meeting deadlines while also fostering fresh, creative ideas that will help grow campaigns, events and engage new donors and constituents. Ability to attend evening and weekend functions. Proven success in managing diverse and multiple fundraising programs. Demonstrated strong and effective communication and organization skills. Ability to function with a high level of independence. Proactive communication with staff is needed to provide ongoing continuity of activities.
Technical/Other Ability to analyze and mine data from past event participant, campaign initiatives, reports and databases. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or fund development software. High functionality with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

This position is full-time exempt, with an annual salary of up to mid-$60’s plus benefits and paid time off.
