MINUTES OF PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP HELD ON TUESDAY 23rd January 2017 AT DALGETY BAY SURGERY
Present: Diana Hamilton, Elizabeth McKenzie, Andrea Hynes-Whalley, Helen Doig, Chris Cunningham, David Cooper, Sara Ramsay.
Apologies: Jan Rea, Mac MacCaskill, Colin Hay, Michele Erskine.
MATTERS DISCUSSED
1.Minutes from previous December 2016 meeting. Leaflets have been reprinted and are to be folded and put out on display. ANP leaflet and poster are still to be done. Andrea will action this. Screens in waiting room have been updated with the ANP information.
2. Guidance for the lay person encountering someone confused and disorientated – David David discussed with the group an encounter with a friend who was confused and disoriented. He raised the question of what are the routes for support available to members of patient community who wish to help a friend or neighbour with confusion. What is the first point of contact to get help? The group discussed various avenues and concluded that social services would be the best contact point. A duty social worker is contactable on 03451 551503 including out of hours.
3. Recent social media comments – All A local community group page on Facebook has been discussing the changes to Tuesday late appointments with sessions only available at the Dalgety Bay surgery. The comments indicated some frustration with little communication from the practice about the change. Diana will include a piece in the next Inverkeithing newsletter to inform the community of late night and early morning appointments.
4. GP sessions – All The practice has started early morning bookable appointments from 7.30a.m. Tuesday to Friday. This will be 1 GP session per day with availability at both surgeries throughout the week. Late night appointments until 8 p.m. are available at Dalgety Bay.
5. Projects for 2017 – All Future projects for the PPG were discussed. It was agreed that the group would be represented at the Inverkeithing Information day on Saturday 25th March 2017 at the Civic Centre. This will be an opportunity to hand out the leaflets the group have worked on and promote online booking. Andrea will arrange booking of the table. Andrea also discussed the ‘Why I value my GP’ campaign which the Royal College of GPs are working on throughout the UK. The project is to promote the value of first contact for health within the community and why the service is important to the patients using the service.

Sandra Notman who is a pharmacist will start at the practice on Monday 30th January. A social worker pilot for 6 months will also start week beginning 30th January for 2 afternoons a week. The practice is recruiting a third Advanced Nurse Practitioner ANP.
For January to date (covering 6 weeks instead of usual 4) 248 DNAs 62 cancelled appointments via text reminders. 4452 GP appointments 1226 ANP appointments 1024 HCA appointments 1806 nurse appointments Patient access data for December should 6847 log-ins to online booking service.
