Final Paper Due: Monday April 30, 2007 by 6:00 on e-Portfolio . Paper will be included in ePortfolio for interview day. ePortfolio = 001or 002 ElEd 1010 philosophy paper Spring 2007 ePortfolio= 001 or 002 ELED 1010 journals ePortfolio=001 or 002 ELED 1010 group web ePortfolio=001or 002 ELED 1010 my layout Your philosophy paper is a description of the teaching and learning process in your classroom.

After reading the texts, reviewing your journals, participating in class activities, reflecting on your field experiences and extravaganza, and writing your web, the teacher candidate (1) will write their personal philosophy paper, that is, what h/s believes will be the framework for their classroom environment, and (2) send the paper and supporting evidence to ePortfolio for the interview to a level of 4 (100%) (weighed X2) as a part of the course final. THINK EXAMPLES! Except for the beginning and ending paragraphs, you will list in writing three examples for each of the headings, with at least one citation, of what I would see if I visited your classroom. The following prompts, in order, will guide you as you explain your philosophy:

Introduction to the paper, an overview of what would be happening in your classroom. Included in this paragraph will be citations from 1) Cues and 2) Wong and 3) one other text. ½ page.

Classroom morning meeting, purpose, parts, and an example activity for each. Need one citation from text.

The Learner's role.

Classroom Materials that you could not live without.

Classroom Behavior Management, which includes a description of at least one effective technique

Diversity: See your list. Not personality, Temperament or Gender.

Instructional strategies (including methods/strategies; 1 MI example, 1 from Dottie’s view, which is constructivist education, and 1 stations/centers)

Ways to assess learning. Assessment (evaluation and/or grading).

Your physical environment, including drawings and/or photographs with labels in ePortfolio.

Most valuable artifact from UMD Extravaganza OR one-day practicum teaching. Reflect on what you learned about the teacher’s role through creating and implementing the artifact included in this paper. Summary: Include (1) about why you want or do not want to teach in grades 1-8th and (2) one major thing you learned about teaching and learning, and (3) what grade you think you earned with at least three pieces of evidence. Getting ready to write: You will use the group web as a way to help organize your personal web and paper. You will be quoting examples from your journals to explain your points. Make sure you put page numbers on your journals pages in your ePortfolio. Your readings and observations journals will be uploaded with your paper.  See top of the handout for items to sent to your ePortfolio  In your interview you will be asked to show, read, and tell something about your current teaching philosophy. This is the number one questions asked in an interview. (The second is about what you believe about behavior management and how you would see up a plan for your classroom.)

Grading Rubric (4 =A =complete all the following at an exceptional level; see assignment rubric) 4-3-2-1-0 (weightedX2)  Cite one example from either your observation journal or your readings journal for each section except for the last overview paragraphs about YOUR artifacts and your summary AND in sections where you are asked to make citations from your text. (Make sure page numbers are on your journal pages of your ePortfolio.) (I will not read papers that do not have journals pages numbered.)  Addressed all the areas stated above completely, in sequence, thoughtfully, showing effort, reflections, and citing examples.  Cite your examples using the following format: (obs. Dietrich, 2006, pg.4 or Wong, 1995, pg. 265). You will be citing examples from your journal. Cite journals (your last name, 2005, pg 4). Use obs. for observation journal and r. for readings journal.  Shows professionalism.  Appropriate grammar, punctuation, and spelling.  Use complete sentences to make lists.  Use left side underlined headings for each topic addressed. e.g., Diversity, Technology  Write ½ page for your introductory paragraph.  Introductory paragraph for your paper which includes your view of your classroom.  Think examples as you explain, citing as you go.  Themes in sequence.  Concluding/summary paragraph for your paper which includes a statement, including,(1) about why you want or do not want to teach in grades 1-8th and (2) one major thing you learned about teaching and learning, and (3) what grade you think you earned with at least three reasons.  Include bibliography  Include in ePortfolio,photo or sets of pictures ( or e.g. clip art) of your idea of a physical environment.  Follow minimum standards stated in your syllabus. (1-inch margins, and font 12, double space)  Audience is the teachers, parents, administrators, and/or volunteers who may read your paper and will be asking you questions about your philosophy during your interview at the schools. Readers should be able to visualize your classroom in action in their mind. Use language that is appropriate, think of the parents.  Paper is in your portfolio on time for instructor and in portfolio for interview.  Attendance at final interview.  No late papers accepted.
