The role
The waiting staff provide a catering service to the students, staff, fellows and guests of the College. They report to the Restaurant Manager. The College catering operation is busiest during University term times with quieter times in August, over Easter and when the College closes down over Christmas and New Year. The average working hours for the waiting staff are variable but may be between 30-35 hours per week. Hours cannot be guaranteed but shifts allow for flexibility. Shifts will vary to cover the hours of business and include weekend and evening work. Successful candidates are likely to have opportunities for long-term contracts.
Responsibilities
Serve and clear lunches, dinners and weekend brunches.
Set up tables in the restaurant ensuring that all necessary items are present and laid neatly, to the correct standard.
Provide tea and coffee service, delivering refreshments as requested to the common rooms, meeting rooms or offices.
Ensure that all areas of the servery, bar and the dining room are kept clean and tidy at all times: wiping down, dusting areas, vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning floors, etc. to maintain a safe and hygienic working environment.
Collect crockery and glasses that have been left in the meeting rooms.
Move and arrange the tables and chairs in the restaurant according to the reservations and their specific requirements.
When necessary assist or carry out kitchen porter duties such as washing and cleaning kitchen equipment and restaurant service china, cutlery and glassware.
Ensure the restaurant and other catering areas are prepared correctly for the next service.
Report both customer complaints and compliments to the Restaurant Manager.
Report any incident or accident, fire, loss, theft, damage or other irregularities to the Restaurant Manager.
Assist guests with any general enquiries they may have regarding the College, building or services that we provide.
Take responsibility for any keys ensuring that they are signed in and out at all times.
Report any staff incidents and personnel concerns to the Restaurant Manager.
Attend staff meetings and training courses.
Provide cover in the bar serving drinks and beverages, taking responsibility for payment and the float.
2 Be flexible and attend to any other reasonable requests by the Restaurant Manager.

In order to provide a professional waiting service to customers, the successful candidate will: have previous experience in a customer facing role
have excellent communication skills
be entirely trustworthy
have excellent attention to detail
possess the ability to anticipate customer needs
have a good personality, enthusiasm and energy
be punctual and reliable in reporting for duty

Kellogg College
Kellogg College is the home for graduate students in the University studying on part-time degree programs as well as full-time programs.
