 Parents and Carers Campaign

 New sexting guidance

 Coming soon…

o New Safety Centre – ClickCEOP Reporting

o New primary resource - Play Like Share

o Out next week: updated e-learning Keeping Children Safe Online Parents and Carers Campaign In July we kickstarted a three month Parents and Carers social media campaign to encourage parents and carers to talk to their children about sex, relationships and the internet. Hopefully you will have already seen the video which started the campaign: ‘The world changes. Children don’t.’

Over the next month we will releasing a series of ‘micro films’ and memes with advice for parents and carers to help protect their children online.

We would encourage you, if you have not done so already, to sign up to our social media channels - @CEOPUK (Twitter) and ClickCEOP (Facebook). Keep your eyes peeled for this new content and share them with the parents and carers you work with.

New ‘sexting’ guidance We know that a big concern for schools and colleges is handling cases where children and young people produce and share sexual photos and videos of themselves, often referred to as ‘sexting’.

Sexting in schools and colleges: responding to incidents and safeguarding young people has been produced by the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) for use by safeguarding leads, headteachers and senior leadership teams in schools and colleges in England. The new guidance has been created to support schools in developing procedures to respond confidently and quickly to incidents involving ‘youth produced sexual imagery’.

The advice covers:

 How to respond to incidents

 The appropriate way to handle devices and imagery

 Effectively assessing risk

 When to involve other agencies

 How to record incidents

 Whether and when you should involve parents or carers

 Strategies to prevent such incidents from occurring

The document is available via the professionals download area of the Thinkuknow site.

New Safety Centre – ClickCEOP Reporting The ClickCEOP button provides a direct route for children, young people, parents, carers and professionals to report incidences of child sexual abuse directly to CEOP.

Although anyone can report to CEOP through the button, its primary focus is to encourage children and young people to report to CEOP if they are ever worried or concerned about contact made to them by an adult on or offline. Over the past few months we have been working hard to make this reporting form (our ‘safety centre’) more engaging, accessible and young-person friendly.

The new Safety Centre (out in Autumn) will be mobile friendly and take only the critical information needed to safeguard the child or young person. It will now provide reporters key information on:

 Should I make a report to CEOP?

 What happens when I make a report?

 How can CEOP help me?

As always, we strongly recommend professionals to promote the ClickCEOP button and encourage young people to report to CEOP if they are ever worried about online abuse. Prior to its launch, further information will be sent to our Thinkuknow network.

New primary resource - Play Like Share October will see the exciting launch of brand new primary school resource, telling the story of Sam, Ellie and Alfie, or ‘Selfie’ as they name their band.

They’re the stars of our new 3-episode animation for 8-10 year olds exploring healthy and unhealthy online behaviours. The films tackle issues around friending, chatting, sharing and privacy online. They help children learn to identify and respond to risks online, and how to get help when they need it. They address both positives and negatives in the role of the internet and digital media in the lives of children this age.

Each film will be supported by a Guidance Pack with detailed session plans and resources to enable you to explore and develop on the learning outcomes with the children you work with, as well as a letter for schools to send home to parents and carers.

To further extend our 8-10s offer, we’ll soon be kicking off the redevelopment of the Thinkuknow web area for this age group…we’ll keep you posted!

Keeping Children Safe Online – updated course to launch next week We are delighted to be launching an updated version of our e-learning course Keeping Children Safe Online, developed in partnership with the NSPCC.

This course provides a fully up-to-date overview of how children use the internet, and what professionals can do to protect them from harm.

It contains information and advice on a whole range of topics, from risks children take online, sexting and cyberbullying, through to online grooming and abuse.

The course takes approximately 4 hours - learners can complete it at their own pace whenever and wherever they want. The updated course costs £30 and all proceeds go to the NSPCC. To register your interest please visit: nspcc.org.uk/kcso

Parents site – in six new languages Our parents site and video resources are soon to be available in six new languages – Welsh, Polish, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali and Urdu. We are planning community engagement for the release of the new website and are keen to hear from any members of our network who have connections and work in the communities where these languages are spoken and are willing to pilot the material. Please email [email protected] with the title ‘Community engagement’ if you are interested. And lastly… So far in 2016 we have trained approximately 500 CEOP Ambassadors. Due to great demand for the Ambassador course, we are delighted to announce new Ambassador course dates for 2017.

Courses are running across the UK with current availability in London, Cardiff, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Birmingham and Bristol. To book onto the course, and for more details on the Ambassador course, please click here.

Best of luck with the coming month and we will be in touch with further updates and launches in October.

Regards
