Staff Council Minutes May 21, 2010

The Staff Council meeting was called to order at 9:35 a.m. by President Shirley Sellers. Those in attendance were: Shirley Sellers, Eva Howe, Bev Ringeisen, Tara Halbrook, Betty Hillman, Anna Aichele, Tara Bass, Debbie Carlson, Cathy Archer, Joyce Webb, Linda Burkholder, and Susan Wilson.

Minutes from the April 2010 meeting were approved with no changes.

Shirley asked for SC members to sign-up to bring treats/desserts for David Selby and his wife. Mrs. Selby is very ill.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Eva University Account #23-630-17 balance as of April 30, 2010 = $10,505.10 Income: $ - 0 - Expense: $ .51 postage

Foundation Account #38RT04067 Income: $3,876.00 Principal: $23,640.37

COMMITTEE REPORTS

SCARECROW EVENT: No Report

NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Cathy A. The new officers starting June 1st, 2010 will be: President: Shirley Sellers; Vice President: Bev Ringeisen; Secretary: Gail Daggett; and Treasurer: Eva Howe.

WATER (FOR GRADUATION) COMMITTEE: Shirley Graduates were handed a bottle of water once they left the auditorium. SC did not sell water this year since graduation was inside.

CRAFT SHOW REPORT: Cathy A. Cathy reminded SC to please mark their calendars for Saturday, November 6th, for the Craft Show. Currently, 36 vendors are confirmed and many more applications are coming in weekly. Cathy is trying to keep a limited number of vendors for certain items. There was a discussion on how to reward the groups of student workers (Ambassadors, Sorority, and work/study students). It was tabled until Eva talks with Tim Sehr. OTHER BUSINESS

BYLAWS COMMITTEE: Tara Tara distributed the latest revisions from the Bylaws Committee. One additional correction was recommended: delete the Website Committee. A first by Tara, and a 2nd by Cathy, was made to accept the changes. Changes passed.

CQI INITIATIVE: Shirley Currently, bonuses have been stopped at 30 years-of-service. Cabinet has accepted the proposal to make the changes, and this item will remain open until the new Chancellor starts and a HR Director is hired.

STAFF COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIPS: Shirley The deadline of June 1st is fast approaching. Please send applications to Linda Bielewicz.

AD COUNCIL REPORT: Shirley Shirley was unable to attend the Ad Council meeting on April 22, 2010, but she was able to obtain the highlights from the Chancellor’s office: The Solidarity ATM in the Kelley Center is up and working. Solidarity will not charge a fee for using the ATM but your home financial institution may. The Indiana University Credit Union, however, has agreed that it will not charge a fee for its members who use the ATM in the Kelley Center. We can thank Deb King for making this happen.

Enrollment for fall admits is up 25%

Deans, Chairs who approve web content need to attend the Web Manager training because they will need to learn how to do this.

Tim did an overview of the budget. The state may take more appropriations. 1. Compensation reserve to cover cost of 2% salary increases if allowed. This decision is made by the BOT. 2. Sizeable campus contingency to handle further cuts in appropriations or drop in enrollment or to allow Chancellor Harris to initiate his agenda for the campus

Increased funding for adjunct faculty, for summer sessions, hourly funding, especially in Advising, Library, and Security, Increased travel in Arts and Sciences

Restored travel budgets in non-academic areas MISCELLENEOUS

Bev’s team raised $631 for Take-Back-the-Night. Her teammates were Linda Burkholder, Linda Bielewicz, Kathy Coppola, Diane Goodnight, and Sheryl Phillips. Diane raised almost $400 by herself. There was a discussion on closing Washington Street for next years’ walk. Tara will talk with Kat Stremiecki to see if this can be done. This would accommodate wheelchairs and strollers.

Tara thanked everyone for her bridal shower.

Cathy thanked everyone from coming to her graduation party

SC discussed what they wanted to purchase for Stuart Green’s retirement. There were several suggestions. Shirley will get a quote from Mid-Central Trophy and send an email for a vote.

SC had several graduates this May. Shirley will get the confirmed list of graduates and will have Eva purchase frames from Kathy Valcke’s office.
