NURSERY CLASS ADMISSION POLICY

The Nursery Class at Carswell School aims to serve children from South / Central Abingdon, Dalton Barracks and the surrounding area.

The school aims to offer 6 terms in Nursery, operating a point of entry for the cohort, from the start of the academic year. Places will usually be available to children resident in the schools’ catchment area.

The adult pupil ratio will not exceed 1:8.

Registration  Children may register for Nursery in the term after their first birthday. Registration does not give priority or guarantee a place  On receipt of the registration form, parents are written to informing them of the Admission process.  Children’s names are placed on the Nursery Admission list.  The closing date for applications is January 31st

Allocation of Places  Places are offered at the beginning of the Summer term. If more than 15 children are on the Admission List then the over subscription criteria is followed.  If there are less than 15 children on the Admission List, all children will be offered a place.  An offer of a place will be made in writing.  When all available places have been offered and accepted, further applicants will be placed on a waiting list and offered if a place becomes available (in accordance with the oversubscription criteria).  After children are admitted, place will be held open for 1 school term for absences that the school has been notified about and for 3 weeks for absences that the school has not been notified about.  After a child has been admitted and their attendance drops below 85%, the place will be reviewed and attendance targets set. If the child’s attendance drops below 70% the place will be withdrawn unless there are mitigating circumstances.

Oversubscription Criteria When demand exceeds capacity, at the beginning of the Summer term, order of priority will be given to:

Parents have the right to appeal. Decisions about priorities will be made by a panel consisting of 2-3 Governors, nominated by the Governing Body, and the Head Teacher. Carswell Community Primary School
