Embedding French in the Primary Curriculum

A warm-up activity for PSHE in French

Teacher’s Notes:

Learning Objective for PSHE: This is intended as warm-up activity for PSHE.

Learning Objective for French: To teach vocabulary for opinions about sports/hobbies

Resources: Video of a conscience corridor starter

Explanation of the activity: Put the children into a conscience corridor ie in 2 lines facing each other. One child walks down the centre of the corridor saying their hobby eg je regarde la télé. One side gives a negative reaction eg je déteste ça, the other side agrees with the speaker eg j’adore ça.

Step 1 : pupils repeat and learn opinion phrases (“C’est fantastique, super, cool // nul, barbant”)

Step 2 : supported by flashcards / pictures on the IWB, pupils repeat and learn phrases to describe their hobbies (“je joue au foot / tennis / basket / à l’ordinateur etc.; je regarde la télé; j’écoute la musique)

Step 3 : set up the ‘conscience corridor’ and explain the purpose (see teacher’s script below).

Progression:

 Pupils could say what they like eating; healthy foods would receive positive comments; unhealthy foods would receive negative comments.

 Pupils could say how much TV they watch per day (“Je regarde 4 heures de télé par jour”) and a journey down the conscience corridor could give them feedback as to how healthy / approved this is.
