<p> Embedding French in the Primary Curriculum</p><p>A warm-up activity for PSHE in French</p><p>Teacher’s Notes:</p><p>Learning Objective for PSHE: This is intended as warm-up activity for PSHE.</p><p>Learning Objective for French: To teach vocabulary for opinions about sports/hobbies</p><p>Resources: Video of a conscience corridor starter</p><p>Explanation of the activity: Put the children into a conscience corridor ie in 2 lines facing each other. One child walks down the centre of the corridor saying their hobby eg je regarde la télé. One side gives a negative reaction eg je déteste ça, the other side agrees with the speaker eg j’adore ça.</p><p>Step 1 : pupils repeat and learn opinion phrases (“C’est fantastique, super, cool // nul, barbant”)</p><p>Step 2 : supported by flashcards / pictures on the IWB, pupils repeat and learn phrases to describe their hobbies (“je joue au foot / tennis / basket / à l’ordinateur etc.; je regarde la télé; j’écoute la musique)</p><p>Step 3 : set up the ‘conscience corridor’ and explain the purpose (see teacher’s script below).</p><p>Progression: </p><p> Pupils could say what they like eating; healthy foods would receive positive comments; unhealthy foods would receive negative comments.</p><p> Pupils could say how much TV they watch per day (“Je regarde 4 heures de télé par jour”) and a journey down the conscience corridor could give them feedback as to how healthy / approved this is.</p><p>Teacher’s script (generic) Translation into English</p><p>Mettez vous en deux colonnes Get into 2 lines</p><p>A droite vous aimez le passetemps, alors On the right you love the hobby, so you vous donnez une opinion positive give a positive comment</p><p>A gauche vous détestez le passetemps, On the left you hate the hobby, so you alors vous donnez une opinion négative give a negative comment C’est fantastique It’s fantastic</p><p>C’est super It’s super</p><p>C’est nul It’s horrible</p><p>C’est barbant It’s boring</p><p>C’est cool It’s cool</p><p>Je joue au foot I play football</p><p>Je joue au tennis I play tennis</p><p>Je regarde la télé I watch tv</p><p>J’écoute la musique I listen to music</p><p>I play on the computer Je joue à l’ordinateur</p>
