R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The passing of Loring Terrill Cook of McAllen on May 19, 1997, at the age of 93, has brought a great loss to the family and many friends of this distinguished civic leader; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Cook was born in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and moved to McAllen in 1928; she wed Vannie E. Cook, Sr., and the couple treasured the time they shared until his passing in 1954; and WHEREAS, A woman of great vision and strength, she will long be remembered for her outstanding civic service; Mrs. Cook volunteered with the Red Cross during World War II and maintained her involvement in the community through the years, supporting the Vannie E. Cook, Jr. Cancer Foundation, named after her late son, the Loring Cook Foundation, which supports local education projects, and the First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for 50 years; and WHEREAS, She led a full and active life and made time in her busy schedule to enjoy music, hunting, and travelling; her commitment to her community was surpassed only by her love of family, and her devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was a source of inspiration to countless individuals; and WHEREAS, Loring Cook touched the lives of many people during her years on this earth, and though her special presence will be deeply missed, her memory will long endure in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Loring Terrill Cook and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her daughter, Betty Ann McCullick, to her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Cook Landrum; to her grandchildren, Terry and Mike Miller, Kathy and Jim Collins, Carol and Sam Dalton, Thomas Cook, Mike McCullick, and Mark McCullick; to her great-grandchildren, Justin Tomasini, Von Tomasini, Jennifer Collins, Will Collins, Courtney Collins, Caroline Collins, Vannie Collins, Mike McCullick, Jr., Sam Dalton, and Loring Dalton; and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Loring Terrill Cook.
