INC

3/3/2014, Called to order at 1:10 pm

Eric Evans, ASUCD Controller (Chair) Alex Park, Director of Creative Media Ricardo Matsui, Programmer, Creative Media Spencer McManis, Chairman, Internal Affairs Commission Andrew Kinsey, Commissioner, Business and Finance Commission Bradley Bottoms, ASUCD Vice President

AGGIE FEED Matsui: Aggie Feed will allow students to view notifications in a centralized manner. Park: It's like RSS, but it's more customizable than that. We've been working on this partnership with IET for the past few months. We've convinced them to take down the old UC Davis mobile app and make ours the official one. There are still things to be worked out. Evans: I'd like to think that we should own the apps if we're developing them. Park: We're trying to make it future-proof so that people won't profit off of it in the future. I won't support this if it costs students money to use. The idea is to figure out ownership so that that doesn't happen. Evans: We're not voting to support today; this was just for INC's information. Park: In the future, this needs to be incorporated into Creative Media's budget, especially for time management for staff members. Evans: That's something that the Senate will need to discuss for next year. This will end up adding to CM's workload and expense. Supporting this MOU would implicitly support such an expansion. There are costs associated with this, but it will be student-driven development. McManus: Will this be a significant redesign of the current Aggie Mobile app, or will it be simply integrating Aggie Feed into the already existing app? Matsui: IET will be responsible for designing the Android version. For iOS, we're upgrading the assets to iOS 7 style and providing assets to the Android team at IET, in addition to incorporating Aggie Feed. Evans: What do these percentages mean in terms of the student staff time? Park: It's a percentage of one student's time. Matsui: I think that most of this work is done within 6 months. The long- term goals are more what the CM Director would be doing. In terms of ownership, we're talking about what it's published under. Right now its under CM ASUCD. What if we had a UC Davis account? That would be a very official name and lend credibility. Evans: I'd like to make sure that the ASUCD name is attached to everything here. McManus: Even if it includes IET's logo or some partnership statement, ASUCD logos need to be there. Evans: How much staff does this add? Park: We're trying to train an additional employee, but we always need an iOS developer in the pipeline. In the MOU, we agreed to get rid of the other UC Davis app and their part. We want to incorporate those people still in whatever way possible. We're trying to partner with them, but we can't count on that. Bottoms: Can we do that long-term? Park: If you want us to increase development, we need more money. I feel like you all have fewer resources than when I went here. I won't ask for an increase until this year because I don't have any reserves. I need money to buy equipment, pay staff for these additional projects, and other things. I'm relying on government to fix that. Evans: The solution is easy in theory, but difficult in practice because those hard decisions need to be made. It requires a decision-making process that we haven't had in the past. Park: Again, we're not doing a pitch this Thursday. We're 90% done with our presentation. In our pitch, we are going to ask for money. We'll print it out and submit it as our official report. That's my pitch. I'm going to meet with Eric to talk about the budget. Bottoms: Are there any updates on Net Revenue? Evans: Not yet. Janice is looking into it. Park: We're also looking to AggieTV to improve. They're going to reevaluate where they need to go. We're looking into putting it back under Creative Media, but I'm not sure how they're going to react to that. Bottoms: A lot of things aren't getting done, and that needs to change. Park: AGTV also made political statements in the last election. They shouldn't be using that platform for that.

ROOM RESERVATIONS Matsui: We are in design for room reservations. The draft is circulating. The basic systems are working. We're about halfway there.

DOC VIEWER Park: Most of them are in Word format, which are a problem. Bottoms: I'll talk to SGAO about changing the protocol to use PDFs instead of Microsoft Word. Matsui: The thing about .DOC is that you need Word to view it. We should change to PDF for accessibility. Park: We're not going to put much into this because we're going to entirely redo it eventually.

CM PURCHASING/SELLING Park: We're also going to be purchasing Mac Pros in the future and hand down the iMacs to other Units. Mac Pros are the computers we need for our high programming and graphics intensive environment. You can't do much with the iMacs in terms of customization and repairing. That would be fixed with Mac Pros. Evans: It would have to be either Senate Reserves or your reserves. Kinsey: It would be more effective to bring it early in the quarter to get your chances higher. Park: We might be able to pull from our Reserves too, but we'll look into it. Evans: We've had a lot of requests for purchasing CM software. We need to have a larger conversation about this. We would need to have support for this software too. Bottoms: They don't have the money, server space, or staff necessary for this.

CHL Bottoms: Spring quarter? Park: We don't have a developer to do this now. It's on the back burner. We'll need to work with the main office. Evans: I sent you the specs a while back. Bottoms: We want to eventually push CHL as a "Rate My Professor" type- site for leasing.

REFRIGERATORS Evans: This is going to be even more backburner than the CHL because of our need to market it more effectively.
