Skills We Treasure-Homework

Please initial each activity as you complete it with your child.  Happy Learning!

Parent Initial Our letters of the week are Zz & Qq. Please help me work on their sound and shape formation. *To make it harder come up with words that start with the letter of the week. Find the letter of the week, in real print Monday around your home. Tuesday In math this week we are working on recognizing numerals 0-9. At home have a grown up or big brother/sister draw the numbers 0-9 for you and go a search to find each number using sales papers or catalogs. *Make it harder find numerals 11-20.

Wednesday This week we read the story “Think Green” Our vocabulary words for the week are: Bottle, Can, Earth, Garbage, Paper, and Recycle. Tonight talk with your child about the vocabulary words and their meanings. Also tell someone one thing you can do at home to help care for our planet earth. Thursday This week we practiced the skill of Alliteration. At home play the game…

Hungry for the Letter __! Using a stuff animal, homemade sock puppet, or paper bag have a grown up say a letter and its sound. Discuss that your puppet can only eat things that start with that letter sound. Once you talk about the sound Gather up some small toys that begin with the sounds that you want to work on. Ex Find about five toys that started with the letter T, five that started with S, and five that started with D. After that, dumped out the objects onto the table and have the children pick two that they think start with the same sound. * Take turns feeding their objects to the snake! If your child picks an object that did not start with the same sound, articulate the words carefully, and have your child look at your mouth while making the beginning sounds. (Ex. Hungry Snake is hungry for things that start with the /b/ sound which one starts with a /b/sound banana, book, box, or sock) If it doesn’t start with a /b/ hungry snake will spit it out! Can you think of any other words that start with a /b/sound? Friday Read with a family member tonight and talk about who the characters are in the story and the setting (where the story took place)
