Hermione Is One of the Best Young Good Witches There Are Around

How Hermione Granger Handles Frustrations.

Suddenly, Hermione’s teacher said, ‘Hermione, I can tell by how you look that you are feeling anxious. You look like a number 3. Use calm time.’

Hermione’s teacher put a calm time card on her table.

Hermione stopped and looked at her teacher. How did she know this? Why was she saying this? Then Hermione realised that her head was fuzzy, her body was tense and her heart was pumping faster than normal. What should she do?

Hermione stood up and went to ‘calm time’. She squeezed items from her calm time box and read a book. Soon, her head felt clearer, her body relaxed and her heart pumped at its normal pace. As she relaxed, Hermione began to realise what the problem was. The teacher had given her too much work and Hermione felt that she couldn’t do it. Hermione put up her hand to tell her teacher she was calm and wanted to talk to her. The teacher went over to Hermione. Hermione said, ‘It’s too much.’

The teacher responded by saying, ‘What can we do?’

Together, Hermione and her teacher worked out a solution. Today, the teacher would help Herimone to break the learning task down into smaller parts so that Hermione could complete the task. Hermione thought to herself, ‘I am happy now. I made a positive choice and I can do my learning task. But how did the teacher know that I needed calm time?’

Hermione used words to ask the teacher how she knew that Hermione needed ‘calm time. The teacher replied that she could tell by how Hermione looked that she was feeling anxious. ‘Your head went down and your body became tense. That’s how I could tell.’

Hermione thanked her teacher for helping her. Hermione could keep learning to help her become a cleverer young witch. She would still be able to help Harry and Ron overcome ‘he who cannot be named’. How happy they would be. The next time you feel frustrated or bored, try doing the following four things that helped Hermione:

1.Stop and take a deep breath. Count to three.

2.Use words or show your feelings scale card to tell an adult that you are going to ‘calm time’.

3.Take time to feel calm by reading or using items from your calm box.

4.Talk to an adult and work on a solution.

Work on these four things, like Hermione, and you will handle your frustrations and boredom in the right way.
