EARLY CHILDHOOD (PRE-SCHOOL) EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENTS

GUIDANCE

 MDE will be monitoring and reporting on Pre-School environments for the first time the 2013-2014 school year

 Compliance Targets

o 28.2% of students- inside a regular pre-school program for part of their day

o 43.2% of students - in a separate, class, school, or residential facility

o “neutral” – walk-in services

 Use the Michigan Decision Tree for Coding Educational Environments

o The first question to ask parents, “is the student attending a regular early childhood program?”

. If yes, enter 46, 47, 48, or 49 (examples below)

 46 – At least 10 hours in regular early childhood program with ECSE or walk-in services

o Services provided in the regular childhood program (Headstart, Great Start, district pre-school)

 47 – At least 10 hours in regular early childhood program with ECSE or walk-in services

o Services provided in some other location (ECSE classroom, Hillside, service provider room)

 48 – Less than 10 hours in regular early childhood program with ECSE or walk-in services

o Services provided in the regular childhood program (private or district pre- school)

 49 – Less than 10 hours in regular early childhood program with ECSE or walk-in services

o Services provided in some other location (ECSE classroom, Hillside, service provider room)

. If no, enter 22, 23, 25, 26, or 27 (examples below)

. NO HOURS IN REGULAR EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM

 22 – ECSE classroom

 23 – Homebound

 25 – Residential facility

 26 – Hillside

 27 – Walk-in services
