Parent Involvement Policy

The staff at McBride Elementary School believes that parents play an integral role in successful education. We believe that teachers and parents work together to form a successful partnership in order to help children develop. We invite parents to participate in this partnership in several ways:

 As collaborators— We invite parents to participate in home reading programs and to monitor homework.

 As decision makers— We invite parents to participate in Site Council, Child Study Team Meetings, and Parent Teacher Conferences.

 As support— We encourage parents to volunteer in the classroom, to chaperone field trips, and to become involved in the PTO.

 As an audience— We invite parents to attend special programs and events.

 As communicators— We encourage parents to communicate via notes from home, e-mail and phone calls.

McBride Elementary is committed to reaching out to parents in many ways:  Class newsletters/Weekly Highlights (planners)  Websites  “Caught Ya” Awards  Curriculum Nights  Parent Teacher Conferences  Award Assemblies  Surveys  Family Nights  Weekly Open Library Night  Attendance Incentives  Facebook Page “Information Station”  Book Fairs  Learning Shares (Speeches, Celebrations of Learning, Music Programs, etc)

Some of our students receive additional reading and/or math instruction to supplement classroom instruction. We invite parents of these students to become involved.

Our specialists:  Hold an annual meeting to inform parents of these services and their right to be involved in the program.  We provide information regarding curricula, assessments, and expected proficiency levels.  Involve parents and welcome their input in the planning and review of these events.

Parents were invited to help create and revise this document.

We review and update these policies annually at Site Council and will distribute this document to McBride families.
