Dear LMS Students and Parents:

Each year the Newnan Junior Service League puts on their annual canned food drive for The Coweta Community Food Pantry. Their success is due, in large part, to the contributions of our Coweta County school system families. LMS's Jr. Student Council, our school student leadership organization, promotes this effort, which is their largest community service project of the year.

While the food drive officially kicked off several weeks ago, Jr. Student Council is making a heavy push for cans in the weeks before Thanksgiving. Beginning Monday, November 1, there will three full weeks of "activities" in which students can participate so that we can raise canned goods (or money to purchase canned goods). The activities planned are detailed below:

November 1 – Crazy Hair November 2 – NO SCHOOL November 3 – Grease is the Word – Dress 50’s November 4 – Young or Old… Be a senior! November 5 – Veteran’s Day – Dress in Red, White, and Blue November 8 – Yee Haw! Overalls? Boots? Giant belt buckle? November 9 – Lee’s got spirit! November 10 – Dress for Success – Pick an Occupation and dress accordingly November 12 – Can A Thon Marathon November 15 – Double the Fun! Dress alike. November 16 – Tacky Tuesday November 17 – Characters are welcome. Dress up like your favorite character. November 18 – Like, totally 80’s! November 19 – Cookies! Get your free cookies!

Students who wish to join the day's activities will donate 6 cans, or $2, per day to participate. Or, if students would like to participate in approximately half of the activities, they can donate 21 cans, or $7, to participate for a week at a time. Lastly, students could donate $15 (that's the equivalent of 45 cans!!!) in order to participate in the full three weeks of activities. Student Council representatives will be on hand in the gym and in the main diamond at the front of the school on Monday so that students can make their donations. Checks should be made payable to Lee Middle School.

In the next few weeks we will also be sending home Can-A-Thon Marathon forms. Students will have an opportunity to really make a difference with a walk-a-thon type activity planned for November 12th. Look for those forms. This could be our most successful fundraising endeavor yet!

Last year LMS raised over 35,000 cans for needy families in our own community. We appreciate the support you provide year after year for this huge outreach project. We are touched by your generous spirit, your fundraising ideas, and the volunteer work (time) that makes it possible to "be the change we want to see in this world." Thank you... for everything.

Sincerely,

LMS Jr. Student Council
