Congratulations to all of you for a most excellent show. It has been a joy to make these selections, most especially to share your artistic growth, and to see the work all hung together is a delight. When we enter a juried show, we know that not everybody’s work will be selected. After selections, we know that only a few will receive awards. To those of you whose pieces were not awarded, know that having your work selected into the show makes an encouraging statement about its merit. I know that you cherish this experience whether or not your work received special recognition. I used the same criteria for judging as for jurying (see the catalogue) with one additional consideration, and that is how the work is presented. When choosing a frame for two-dimensional work, it is important that we consider what the frame is doing to and for the piece. An appropriate frame will not be noticed. It will calmly hold the art work and give it presence. If it overpowers the piece, it’s the wrong frame even if the frame itself is lovely. This is my reason for considering presentation when I made the final decisions for awards. I send best wishes to all of you as you continue your journey as artists. Dianne Mize NEAL:
