Mandatory Sexual Harassment Avoidance Training Offered November 2—Sexual harassment is a costly problem that many employers face. According to the U.S. Equal Opportunity Employment Commission, $37.1 million in monetary damages was awarded to plaintiffs in 2004 alone. California law (AB1825) requires employers with 50 or more employees to provide a minimum two-hour sexual harassment prevention and awareness training to all supervisory employees in 2005. After January 1, 2006, training must be provided to all supervisory employees every two years. To meet this need, Santiago Canyon College’s Community Services program is offering “Sexual Harassment Avoidance Training” on Saturday, November 5. The workshop meets the necessary requirement of interactive training while covering the prevention and correction of sexual harassment. Topics include guidelines for prevention, critical information on harassment, workplace scenarios, and documentation of training attendance. “Sexual Harassment Avoidance Training” is taught by Allison J. Pratt, a human resources professional with over 25 years of business experience. She is president of Pratt and Associates in Mission Viejo. The class is offered on Saturday, November 5 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Santiago Canyon College, building B, room 214. The college is located at 8045 E. Chapman Avenue in Orange. The class fee is $69. For more information or to register, call (714) 628-4960 or visit www.sccollege.edu/cs.
