Information on the POP (Pacific Optimization Research Activity Group) In recent years, intensive research activities in optimization have taken place in the Pacific Region. Many international conferences on optimization have been and will be held in this region. To further enhance optimization research in the region, we have established The Pacific Optimization Research Activity Group (POP, taken the first letter of the first word ``Pacific'' and the first two letters of the second word ``Optimization''). We welcome all those who are interested in further promoting optimization research activities in this region to join the Group. They may or may not live in the region. We would like to particularly encourage young researchers and students to join the Group. There are no membership fees. POP was established one year ago. It has 313 members from 33 countries now and the number is growing steadily. Along with many young optimization researchers, many prominent optimization researchers, who either are in this region, or are from this region, or are interested in promoting optimization research activities in this region, have joined POP. POP has endorsed thirteen international conferences in 2001-2002, including ICOTA 2001. POP has established its e-Newsletter - Optimization Research Bridge (ORB). For more information about POP and ORB, please check their homepages: http://www.polyu.edu.hk/~ama/links/pop/an1.html and http://www.polyu.edu.hk/~ama/links/orb/issue1.html Those interested in joining POP but have not yet joined are requested to fill up the following form, and to submit it to ICOTA2001 registration officers, or to send it to Ms. Eva Yiu ([email protected]).
