Classroom Regulations:

 Be in your assigned seat when the bell “rings”.  Be prepared for class. Read the “Kickoff” assignment and begin the activity immediately. These will always be written on the white board. Have a pencil or pen and notebook open and ready.  Follow directions the first time they are given.  Always address all individuals with courtesy and by their name.  The hall pass will be issued on an emergency basis.  Never leave your seat without asking permission from the instructor.  Raise your hand and wait to be recognized before speaking. Homework:

Homework will be assigned each week and the assignments will be due on the dates indicated. If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to arrange to make up the assignments missed. (See Guidelines for Assessment)

Grading:

The grading system will vary from marking period to marking period. (See Guidelines for Assessments) As the course progresses there will be less emphasis on quizzes and tests and more emphasis on research and writing. All work in class is given a specific point value and each category of assignment is weighted as per district policy. At the end of the marking period a final point total will be reached and the number of points you have earned will determine your grade. All students will be graded on class participation. Each student will begin each marking period with a Class Participation Grade of 100%. Points will be deducted from this grade for each violation of class regulations.

For The International Baccalaureate:

Part 1: External Assessment (75%)

Written Papers 2.5 Hours

Paper 1: A document based paper on prescribed subjects drawn from the 20th century world history topics.

The examination paper will consist of three sections of four sections on each of the prescribed subjects.

All four questions from one section to be answered

The maximum mark for the paper is 25.

Paper 2: An essay paper on 20th century world history topics.

The examination paper will comprise 30 questions, five on each of the six 20th-century world history topics. Two questions to be answered, each chosen from a different topic. The maximum mark for each question is 20.

The maximum mark for the paper is 40.

Part 2: Internal Assessment (25%)

Undertake an historical investigation approximately 1500-2000 words in length.

Product must consist of:  An outline plan of the historical investigation  A summary of evidence  An evaluation of sources  An analysis A conclusion

Notebook Requirement:

Each student is responsible for keeping a notebook for this course. The notebook will be checked and graded once per marking period.

Format: The notebook should be neat and must be fastened together and have a cover on the front with your name and the name of the course. Unfastened pages will not be accepted.

Contents: The notebook should contain the following:

1. Notes from class: a. Class lectures b. Class discussions c. Discussion of homework assignments d. Chapter outlines 2. Notes from readings (books, articles, documents) 3. Homework assignments 4. Other relevant materials

In the front of your notebook you should keep a copy of the Guidelines for Assessment and this syllabus in order to clarify the goals and procedures of this course.
