JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Local Area Network Support Specialist III

POSITION INFORMATION: Provides technical support to a departmental network and computer operations in which the ratio of LAN Specialists to employees is 1 LAN Specialist to between 101 and 250 employees.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

1. Installation. Configures hardware installations and system applications for the microcomputer network designed to utilize software packages for office automation. Installs all computer hardware and associate equipment, and all software packages.

2. Troubleshooting. Performs diagnostic testing and troubleshooting. Evaluates file server, hardware, peripheral equipment, software packages, and test equipment required to support the network.

3. Web Maintenance. Installs and maintains hardware and software for the World Wide Web server. Provides proper space and security for participating debts web pages. Coordinates and configures HTML links with main OUHSC webpage.

4. Quality Assurance. Ensures optimal performance of the system by working with external software and hardware consultants, manufacturer representatives, etc.

5. Library Maintenance. Maintains software libraries, hardware schematics, operating instructions, user training manuals, and all other technical documents.

6. Continuing Education. Continues to stay abreast of changing technologies and new product items to support and enhance job performance.

7. Training. Provides user training and assistance to division staff for various software, e-mail, web, and other applications. Provides individual user training and assistance at workstations.

8. As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field

Experience: 48 months experience in operation, installation, and repair of advanced microcomputer equipment and systems

Certifications/ Licenses:

Equivalent/ Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience or an Associate’s degree and 24 months related experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree
