WHAT IS THE PURPOSE? The purpose of this service is to increase the quantity or enhance the quality of meals Elderly Nutrition Centers (ENC) programs are able to provide to participants. To help program partners save funds and help increase the opportunity to purchase other nutritious foods.
GUIDELINES Hunger is a problem on reservations communities for the elderly. It becomes more of an issue at the end of each month when the other resources are depleted. High quality, healthy food is not as available in remote areas and it tends to be more costly than more populated areas. PWNA provides supplemental staple food items to ENCs so elders can have a hot nutritious meal, then participate in activities and socialize. Examples of non-perishable staple food items could include: 50 lb bag of beans 25 lb bag of sugar Canned fruits 50 lb bag of flour 25 lb bag of rice Canned vegetables NO SUBSTITUTIONS OR DELETIONS
PARTNER EXPECTATIONS
ENC must provide a feeding program that offers a daily meal on a regular and scheduled basis.
ENC Programs could use our staple food items to supplement costs to purchase nutritious food items
Must have adequate storage to accommodate ordered food.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
The request must be made 2 weeks before scheduled shipping week for shipping purposes
Program partner making request must have volunteers available to help the driver unload the PWNA truck
Program partner sites utilize staple food to prepare meals for congregate meals and home delivery meals REPORTING Report form, contained in your delivery packet(s), must be completed and returned to PWNA on the date indicated in the delivery packet.
