LOWLAND EXPEDITION LEADER TRAINING 2018

Background

This is a training course for those leading young people on expedition or training them for expeditions. The qualification covers what is recognised by The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, as Normal or Open ground so is suitable for Bronze and Silver level expeditions. L.E.L. is a nationally recognised qualification moderated by the UK Sports Leaders. This course will be particularly focused on the requirements for leading The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Scout groups. This course is only open to members from Lincolnshire Scout County.

Consolidation

The course will give you the requisite knowledge enabling you to prepare for assessment. You will need to have completed 30 hours of instruction where you put the training into practice under the supervision of a suitably qualified person.

Assessment

The assessment takes place over a weekend (Friday night to Sunday evening) and again is carried out under 'expedition conditions' whereby you will be camping (at different campsites) for both nights of the assessment. We will arrange for the dates after the training course is completed. For those that wish there will be the chance to complete the assessment over Easter 2018.

Cost

£150 per scout member applicant including registration with UK Sports Leaders who manage the qualification. The cost includes course materials, food and accommodation costs for the February weekend in the Peak District. Other weekends are local and you should bring your own lunch. The costs excludes the LEL registration which is approx £70. Grants towards the cost may be available from the County and /or the Development Grants Board at HQ.

Cheque payments should be made to Lincolnshire Scouts. Applicants are required to be members of the Scout Association. Non members may join the course but the fee is £250 per applicant excluding registration.

There are no prerequisites to joining a course. While no doubt some experience will be useful you don't need to have logged any teaching or personal experience hours prior to the training.
