Principal: Dr. Chad Warnimont [email protected] Dean of Students: Mrs. Kolebuck [email protected] Counselor: Mrs. Alyssa Neumeyer [email protected] 419-874-8721 Principal’s Message: th This year is moving very quickly. Friday, October 13 , marked the final day of our first academic quarter. We look forward to meeting with you at parent-teacher conferences to discuss your child’s performance. Please note: There is no school on Friday, October 27, due to conferences.

We will not have school on Tuesday, November 7th. Instead, this day is devoted to providing our school staff professional development.

If you have specific questions, concerns or simply want to share your insights, please do not hesitate to contact our school. Our goal is to improve daily which can only happen with your support, confidence and wisdom.

Veterans Day Program Frank Elementary will once again be honoring all veterans with a Veterans Day program! Our program will be on November 10th at 9:15. Veterans are welcome to arrive at 8:15 AM to enjoy donuts and breakfast beverages as well as interact with Frank staff members.

If you know a veteran, please encourage them to attend. Please send the name of the veteran who will be attending as well as the relationship to one of our Frank students to Mrs. Falkenstein (building secretary). The relationship could be family, friends, neighbors, etc. We want to extend the invitation to all who have served in our military. Her email address is: [email protected].

We would kindly ask that you please reply by Friday, November 3, so we know how many people to expect. Bullying Prevention Each month we would like to share some information regarding our Olweus Bully Prevention Program. This month, we would like to share the Olweus definition of Bullying:

Bullying is…when someone repeatedly and on purpose says or does mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending himself or herself.

Our staff has received training on the difference between bullying and other student behavior, such as rough and tumble play or real fighting.

For more resources on bullying prevention, check out the following website and also the worksheets attached to this newsletter.

From the Nurse's office... Cold and Flu season is quickly approaching. While we hope that ALL of our students stay healthy, it is important to know that some of our students are more at risk when contracting contagious viruses and diseases. For instance, the child with diabetes, a compromised immune system or asthma will miss MANY more days of school for a “simple” cold than those without these diseases. When is it ok to return to school after having an illness?

• After having a fever, students must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine such as Tylenol, Motrin or Aspirin. • After vomiting or having diarrhea, students must be symptom free for 24 hours and have resumed a normal diet.

• After chickenpox, students may return when spots are dry and crusty and no new spots are occurring.

• After a bacterial infection (i.e., Strep throat, Pinkeye, bacterial skin infection) students may return after receiving antibiotics for 24 hours and fever free per the above guidelines or when your doctor certifies that your child is able to return. Failure to follow these guidelines will mean that your child will be sent home until recovery is complete. Upon return to school, students also need to have a note stating the dates and reason for the absence.

According to the Parent/Student Handbook 2015-2016, page 4: 1. EXCUSED ABSENCES

a. Personal Illness (The parent/guardian determines if the student is unable to attend school due to illness):

i. Requires notification from parent/guardian

ii. Phone call to school on day of absence before 9:30 am

iii. Written note from parent/guardian when student returns to school iv. A doctor’s excuse may be required in some instances at the discretion of building administration Now is the time to have a “sick plan” in place in the event of having an ill child. Have a back- up person available in advance in case you get a call from school that your child is ill and needs to go home. Here at school we are constantly reinforcing these very important principles to help prevent the spread of germs. These same principles should be reinforced at home as well.

• Frequent and effective hand washing (at least 20 seconds with soap and water). Use hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.

• Cough and sneeze in your elbow or sleeve. Do not cough and sneeze in your hands. If you do, wash hands or use sanitizer immediately.

• DO NOT touch the T-Zone or even better yet, your face. The mucous membranes in the Eyes, Nose and Mouth are where germs enter the body. We want to do all that we can to have a safe and healthy environment here at school. With everyone following these helpful tips we hope that we can accomplish that goal.

Photographs for the Yearbook Please remember to take photographs at events throughout the year for possible inclusion in the yearbook. Please send them to Kim Fenneken at [email protected]. Examples of recent activities could be the Walk-A-Thon, Girls on the Run and the Halloween Dance.

Walk-A-Thon Update: The Frank Elementary Walk-A-Thon took place on Monday, October 2nd. It was a huge success!

You can continue to donate online at the following link: https://app.mobilecause.com/form/bNFpHA. We are thrilled to partner with the Perrysburg Schools Foundation to be able to offer this option for tax deductible donations. Please know that even though they are accepting the donations, the donations are being collected on behalf of Frank Elementary and the money will be used by Frank Elementary!

You can also text FrankWalk to 41444 to get a link to make a gift that way. You can donate online through the end of October.

The money will be used to purchase laptops so we can have a mobile laptop computer lab in the building.

This is our one big fundraiser of the school year! Thank you for your support of our school!

Jacket Way Shining Stars 1 st Quarter Winners: We would like to recognize the following students for being respectful, responsible, and ready Jacket Way Shining Stars for the 1st quarter. These students were great examples of being respectful, responsible, and ready at school, at home, and everywhere they went!:) They enjoyed a pizza lunch on Friday, October 20. Thank you to Vito’s for donating the pizza for our pizza lunch!

Halloween Parade/Party Information: On Tuesday, October 31st, Frank Elementary School will be hosting a parade for our students. The parade will begin at 2:45 pm. We ask that all individuals arrive prior to this time as we want to make sure our hallways are clear. We ask that you begin to arrive no earlier than 2:30 pm.

For adults only watching the parade: We will have two tables set-up at the front entrance for parade spectators to sign-in. They will also receive a visitor tag. The visitors will then be directed to the cafeteria or gym to watch the parade. At the end of the parade, parade spectators will be able to leave through the doors in the cafeteria or through the front doors of the school. Please note: For security reasons, only parents who have signed up to help with classroom parties are able to go to the classrooms for the parties.

For adults who have signed-up to help with the parties (and have received confirmation from your child's teacher): All party helpers can enter through the recess doors (by the custodial office) and park on the basketball court (off of Pine Street). Each party helper will get a sticker with your name already written on it. Please keep this sticker on so after the parade you may enter your child's classroom to help with the classroom party.

Proper Halloween Attire Please keep the following expectations in mind when choosing a costume for your child:

1.) No weapons. For example, guns, knives, light sabers, or sharp objects of any kind (including plastic).

2.) No make-up that represents blood or gory, gruesome or frightening characters.

3.) Remember that our students will be participating in a Halloween Parade. It is important that nothing drags or has too many strings that may be caught and become dangerous to them orsomeone beside them.

4.) Masks are permitted as long as they don’t restrict the child’s vision.

If you have questions regarding your child’s costume, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
