SUBJECT: Revision of Section 401, Plant Mix Pavements - General
With this letter, we are issuing a revised version of the existing standard special provision, Revision of Section 401, Plant Mix Pavements – General. This revised special provision is 3 pages long, and is dated October 13, 2005. It replaces and makes obsolete the previous version of this special provision, which was dated October 14, 2003. Use of this revised special provision is mandatory on projects having any grading of hot bituminous pavement that are advertised on or after November 10, 2005. However, please feel free to use it on appropriate projects advertised prior to this date. This revision is being issued to address to: 1. Set a tolerance of ± 1 inch from visible joint seam to the location of the core. 2. Require clear echelon marking. 3. Eliminate coring from intersections and other areas where it is difficult to pave, as directed. 4. Set the number of working days to complete QC and QA testing to within five calendar days of joint construction. This specification will be available at appropriate locations throughout the CDOT Design Support web site and will be listed in a new Index of Standard Special Provisions that will also be dated October 13, 2005. For ease of access, you can find this and other special provisions that are being issued effective this date at: http://www.dot.state.co.us/DesignSupport/Construction/1999index.htm
