Earthworm Dissection Study Guide

 Be able to tell the kingdom, phylum, class, genus, and species for the common earthworm.  Know the name and number of earthworm "hearts".  Be able to list, in order, the parts of the earthworm's digestive system and to be able to tell the FUNCTION of EACH part.  Know the function and location of setae on an earthworm.  Be able to give the function for these parts of the reproductive system --- sperm sacs, sperm/seminal receptacles, ovaries, and testes.  Be able to explain mating and fertilization in the earthworm.  Know the purpose of the cocoon and how it's formed.  Be able to explain the term hermaphrodite and apply this to the earthworm.  Be able to explain, in detail, how the earthworm breathes.  Be able to explain internal (septa) and external (metameres) segmentation in earthworms.
