Dear Parents/Guardians,

The 1st and 2nd graders are already hard at work learning the music for their Christmas program! This year, on Tuesday December 2, 2014 at 7pm, they will be performing the play Listen to the Angels in the Church.

“The angels at Angel Central in the Heavenly Realms are busy as usual, but this year the new angel on the block wants to hear the full story again of what happened on that first Christmas night. It’s up to Lead Angel Gabriel to recount the Greatest Story Ever Told with a little help from his friends.” (Words and music by Tina English and John Purifoy)

Costumes: Every student in 1st and 2nd grade will be an ANGEL for the play. I would like the students to dress up in solid white clothing of any kind (long sleeve, short sleeve, pants, skirts, dresses, etc. OR a white angel costume/robe if you have one). Since finding white bottoms can be difficult to find, wearing black bottoms (or the navy school uniform pants if you have them) and a white top would be fine too. Gym shoes or dress shoes are encouraged but please nothing with a high heel since they will be standing on steps.

I will make halos for all students to wear and will hand those out the day of the performance. Since the students will be standing very close together on the steps in front of the altar, please NO wings of any kind.

If your child has been chosen for the speaking part of Mary, Jospeh or a shepherd, they will have a specific costume to borrow from me to wear for the performances.

Performance Day: I hope your child is getting excited about the production, as they all have a very important role for the production. They will be performing two times on Tuesday December the 2nd. 1:30pm for the school and 7:00pm for parents, family and friends, both performances will be held in the Church.

For the afternoon performance, students will need to come to school dressed in their angel clothing. Students who have an angel robe or something to wear over clothing must wear their gym uniform to school that day and can put the robe over top their gym uniform when they get to school. Students are not permitted to change clothes at school during the day but those who are wearing robes will be able to take off robes and continue to wear gym clothes the remainder of the day.

For the evening performance, students should come dressed in their costume and be dropped off at their classroom between 6:30 and 6:45. It is important that students be on time, but the doors to the Church WILL NOT be opened before 6:30pm for audience seating. I have mapped out on the back of this letter where each homeroom will be standing on the altar steps so that you can plan to sit accordingly in the Church to best see your child perform.

You are welcome to take pictures from your seats during the show. At the end of the performance, I will give a few minutes to have pictures taken of the group in their place on the altar steps. The homeroom teachers will then take their class back to their room where you can pick up your child. Borrowed costumes will need to be left at school.

Thanks for all of your help and support with this production. Performing can be very exciting and fun for students at this age and I want to do my best to make sure they fully enjoy it! If you have any questions or concerns about the Christmas program or costumes, please feel free to email me.

Thank you, Mrs. Karen Smith [email protected]
