Wembley Baseball Club Junior Team Selection Policy

1. Appointment of Coaches 1.1. Appointment of coaches will be completed prior to preseason training, and after final registration submissions 1.2. Coach appointments are determined by the Wembley Baseball Club Committee, in consultation with the Head Coach, Junior Development Coach and Junior Coordinator 1.3. Head Coaches of Little League and Junior League require a minimum Level 2 Coach certification 1.4. Head Coaches of Senior and Big League require a minimum level 3 Coach certification 1.5. Assistant coaches do not require level 2/3 certification but is encouraged

2. Preseason Training 2.1. The Wembley Baseball Club will hold preseason training sessions at the latest 4 weeks prior to final team selection submission date as set by Baseball WA. 2.2. The objective of these sessions is to:  prepare junior players for the upcoming season  evaluate existing and new players in each age level  ascertain the number of teams and team makeup  introduce coaches to players

2.3. Additional training sessions may be held after coaches are appointed. Prospective players will be notified of any additional programs that may occur.

3. Attendance

3.1. All registered junior players are required to attend a minimum of one (1) preseason training evaluation sessions in order to be correctly graded into an appropriate team to compete in the upcoming season. This includes:  Little League  Junior League  Senior League  Big League

3.2. It is also important that players who attend preseason training understand that, whilst their attendance will certainly be an advantage, there will be other players who come into consideration for team selection. 3.3. Wembley Baseball club acknowledges that some junior players will be involved in winter sporting commitments that clash with preseason training. The club understands the importance of these commitments and will endeavour to correctly place players who are unable to attend until closer to season start.

4. Selection Criteria

4.1. Players will attend preseason training in the appropriate age group and be available to represent the club in the team selected. 4.2. Teams will be selected by the appropriate coaches, who will seek input, as required, from the Junior Coordinator, Junior Development Coach and Head Coach. Previous coaches may also be accessed for information. 4.3. Team numbers and size will be determined by player availability. 4.4. Players will be placed in teams after consideration of the following:  Ability  Experience  Past performances  Positions played  Team dynamics  Behavioural issues  Reliability

5. SELECTION TIMELINE 5.1. Teams will be announced with players within 1 week of finalisation of preseason team selection sessions. 5.2. Team announcements will be made to the registered email of each player held by the club. 5.3. Players will have a period of 1 week to submit considerations for changes in selected teams. 5.4. Submissions for changes in teams must be in writing to the Junior Coordinator and Head Coach of the affected team. 5.5. Changes to selected teams are considered on a case by case basis; however, once the change consideration period has expired no further changes will be entered into.

6. RE-GRADING

6.1. Re-grading gives coaches the opportunity to address any selection issue that may occur after teams have been named, and allows coaches to more accurately place players in the correct competition. It encourages players to perform at their best and rewards those players who deserve promotion. 6.2. Any player who, in the view of their coach, has been incorrectly selected may have that selection reviewed. Behavioural issues may also be considered when regrading players. 6.3. Any decision on re-grading will be made in consultation with the Junior Coordinator, Junior Development Coach and/or Club Coach.

7. GRIEVANCES

Whilst the Wembley Baseball Club supports the selection decisions made by coaches appointed by the Committee, queries regarding selection decisions can be made as follows:  by approaching the coach either by phone or at an appropriate time.  by approaching the Junior Coordinator by phone or at an appropriate time.  in writing to the Committee. Any communication regarding selection decisions should be made in an appropriate manner.
