Message from Our Pastor

THE LIGHTHOUSE Newsletter for March 2017

Because I have sinned against him, I will bear the LORD's wrath, until he pleads my case and establishes my right. He will bring me out into the light; I will see his righteousness. Micah 7:9

Message from Our Pastor

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Once again, we are beginning one of my favorite seasons in the church year, Lent and Easter. Some might wonder why Lent? It can seem like such a dark contemplative time. Our midweek service is held at night which has an effect on us because it’s dark out and darkness brings out in us many things which we would rather avoid like fear, sadness and the pain our own sin. It’s a time when we examine and look deeper into all of those things in our lives as we journey with Christ who walked and continues to walk with us, and took on all of those things for us when he went to the cross. Recently I attended a Synod Leader’s theological conference, and the presenter Anna Madsen said something profound to me. Something I believe I have known all along, yet right there in that moment in time hit me and gave me hope. “Death, pain and suffering are real, but life is realer!” I think that is why Lent and Easter are my favorite seasons of the church year, because as a community of faith who through our baptisms are joined together in the body of Christ and are gathered at the cross in our darkness and brokenness, looking to the light that is Christ who shattered the bonds of brokenness and darkness that is death, pain and sin, and gave us life! YES! “Death is real, but life is realer”. It is something I think our world so desperately needs to hear right now. So with that, I want to encourage you… no better yet, invite you to join Pastor Suzie and I to the mid-week Lenten services as we gather around the cross in all our brokenness, anxiety, pain and fear in prayer, and together look to the light, for healing, peace, and most of all LIFE, that only comes through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Peace and Grace to you in this Lenten Season,

Yours in Christ, Pastor David
