Trampolining Analysis of Performance – example questions

1. Rules (and their role in sport), regulations and terminology

1. What’s the minimum number of people you should use to set up a trampoline? Four People

2. Give 3 safety factors a bouncer must consider before bouncing on the trampoline. Correct clothing / No Jewellery / Trampoline has been put up correctly and checked for wear and Tear / They are well enough to be participating / You have a qualified instructor present and spotters

3. What is the job of the spotter? To carefully watch the person bouncing and be alert. They may need to push the bouncer back onto the trampoline if they lose control and come to the edge of the trampoline.

4. What is the term for: - Seat drop half twist to seat (Swivel hips) - Back drop half twist to back (Cradle) - Front drop half turn to front drop (Turn Table)

5. What is the recommended ceiling height for rec trampolining? 5m

6. What is the recommended ceiling height for comp. trampolining? 8m

7. Factors to consider re: positioning of a trampoline? Away from walls / not under direct sunlight / not underneath beams

8. Safety rules for the participant? Jewellery / hair / listen to instruction / appropriate clothing / spotting / footwear

9. What are the main body shapes to perform a somersault? Tuck, Pike and Straight

10.How are Seat drop, full twist to seat drop more commonly known? Roller

2. Observation and analysis

10.What are the progressions for teaching a back drop?

Swivel hips • Bouncer should contact the bed with their bottom and legs at the same time on the cross • Hands should be flat, slightly behind the bottom with fingertips facing the toes • Head looking forward • Bouncer should push on the hands and lift their hips of the bed • Arm should rise by the ears and the bouncer should look under the armpit in the direction they want to twist. Twist is initiated first from arms and shoulders. • Legs should pass underneath the body not round the side • Bouncer returns to the seat drop position on the cross, pushes on hands and lifts hips to stand

Front drop • Starting on the cross. The bouncer reaches up and lifts the hips at the top of the bounce so the body shifts from the vertical to the horizontal position • Body should contact to bed all at the same time • Knees should be bent so feet do not contact the bed • Chest should be flat and arms bent in a triangle position. Head level and looking at fingertips • To stand the bouncer should press the bed with arms and hands to force the chest and body back to the vertical

Back drop to front drop • Bouncing on the cross. At the top of the bounce they should reach up with their arms and lift the hips so the upper body changes into the horizontal position. • Contact should be made with the bed with the back and head only. • Arms should stop with fingertips facing the ceiling and legs should lift so toes stretch to the ceiling. Legs should be slightly flexed. • Toes should be pushed forwards and upwards with the hip lifting • This action will lift the torso • Legs should pass underneath the body and the body continues to travel forward back to the horizontal position • Fronts drop position as described above

13. A trampolinist is finding it difficult to perform more complex skills with height. What would a coach get them to do to combat this fear? - Practise ‘high bouncing’ with control, completing no skills - Complete many low stress routines (with basic skills) with height to develop confidence and control - When confidence is developing perform more complex skills individually to build up confidence and height before attempting to link them - Use of push in mats for confidence - It is important to maintain the confidence and safety of the performer. A coach must build this up gradually and work out a strategy that works for the individual performer and achieves the necessary outcome

14. Explain how being in a competition can have either a positive or negative effect on a trampolinists performance.
