Activity /Strategy Interview Paper

Category Homework/Out of Classroom Experiences

Briefly describe the activity/strategy.

1. Introduction The goal of this paper is to determine if they are really interested in the career they are looking to pursue and/or gain a connection with a person at the university they seek to transfer to after completing their degree.

2. Set up & Supplies None.

3. Directions They are to interview a person at the university they are seeking to transfer or someone who has graduated from a 4-year in the field they are looking to pursue. The first week, they were to come up with 10 questions. The second week, they were to give me answers to the questions. The next week, they must turn this information into a paper.

4. Conclusion They are to submit an essay discussing the person's occupation and the journey the person took to achieve his/her occupation.

What worked well? Every aspect worked well because the students came up with thoughtful questions. It was important I saw the answers to the questions before the essay because I was able to continue to guide them through the process from the beginning until the essay.

What would you change? I would have stronger emphasized the interviewee must be either a department chair or someone working at the university in the department he/she is seeking to transfer to because a few students just picked random people without any real thought.

Would you use the activity/strategy again? Why or why not? Yes I will because it had a positive effect on a few students.

Please describe any student learning outcomes/changes that you observed after the implementation of the activity/strategy. A few students really took the project seriously an d became more energized to complete the required courses and start applying to the school they attended.
