THIS WEEK During Our Come and See (R.E) Activities We Have Started Our New Topic WELCOME

Friday 14 th October Wednesday Word – PRAYER

THIS WEEK – During our Come and See (R.E) activities we have started our new topic WELCOME, where the children have been thinking of all the different ways that we can make others feel welcome. During literacy we have been learning a poem about a fire fighter and have been writing captions about the different ways fire fighters help us. During Maths we have been learning the names of the 3D shape and building with these. In the afternoons we have had a visit from firefighter Shaun where the children found out about the uniform fire fighters wear. They have also been making their own emergency vehicles using found materials. The children have been investigating which material will be best to protect the firefighters hand from getting wet.

CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEKEND – Thank you for all your examples of 3D shapes. We have made an interactive display with these. This week we are asking you to help your child find autumnal items such as leaves that are starting to change colour, conkers, acorns, pinecones etc. This week we have also sent home assembly words with the children. If your child has words, please help them practise their words in a loud and clear voice.

NEXT WEEK – During Come and See we will be talking about how we are welcomed into our parish family. During Literacy we will be listening to Autumn poems. During Guided writing we will be writing simple captions about Autumn. In Maths we will be revisiting the 3D shape names and learning about the different features of these shapes. The children will be introduced to the vocabulary of faces, edges and vertices. During the afternoon we will be finding out about Autumn and also learning about who keeps us safe and healthy. John will be visiting school to tell us about how he keeps us safe when crossing the road.

FIRST DAYS PHOTOGRAPHS – The photographer from the Wigan Evening Post will be coming into school on Monday to take a class photograph which will then be published in the paper over the next couple of weeks. Please ensure that your child is wearing their full uniform for this photograph. Thank you for your support with this.

HARVEST ASSEMBLY - Next week we will be thinking about and practising our Harvest assembly. We will be giving some children small parts to learn. If your child has a part, please help them to learn their words and encourage them to speak their words in a loud and clear voice. Everyone will be involved in some way or another either speaking, role play along with joining in with poems and songs. Your child will be involved in their first assembly on Friday 21st October. The focus of our assembly will be Harvest. All family and friends are welcome to our assembly. Please come to the hall from 9.05 onwards the assembly will start shortly after this. An invitation will be sent home nearer to the date.

TIN COLLECTION – As part of our harvest celebrations we ask for donations of tinned and packet goods. These donations will be made into hampers for the senior citizens of our community. Please support us with this as it is a wonderful initiative that benefits so many elderly people in our community.

END OF TERM – School will be closed for half term on Friday 21st October at 3.30pm and will re-open again on Monday 31st October at 8.50am.

PROGRESS AND CITIZENSHIP AWARDS - Each week we give out certificates for Progress and Citizenship. These will be sent out on the following Monday with the children.
