CALL FOR ABSTRACTS FSOSW Annual Conference 2017

Dear Colleagues,

The FSOSW Abstracts committee is pleased to announce a call for abstracts for presentations and workshops during its 34th annual conference that will be held in Jacksonville, Florida October 11-13, 2017. Please submit your abstract to Dr. Paul Clark ([email protected]) by March 31, 2017. We invite psychosocial oncology practitioners from all disciplines to submit abstracts for the conference entitled:

CULTIVATING BALANCE IN THE WORLD OF CANCER

The conference theme reflects the challenges that oncology social workers face when managing the contradictions that can emerge between our professional mandate to provide patient- centered care while simultaneously managing competing organizational, economic, and regulatory demands. Maintaining a balanced sense of hope, optimism and professional resilience can, at times, be difficult. As a conference theme, “Cultivating Balance in the World of Cancer” encompasses the articulation of current professional challenges as well as the power of oncology social work practitioners to mobilize the personal, professional, and evidence-based resources needed to achieve and cultivate a meaningful professional life.

The aim of the conference is to bring together experts in the fields of practice, administration and research to present the most recent findings from their work and translate these into action steps for addressing challenges in the practice of oncology social work.

Conference Objectives:

1. Explore options for establishing and maintaining professional SW identity on multidisciplinary teams. 2. Identify strategies for balancing patient-centered approaches with competing organizational and regulatory demands. 3. Develop approaches for healthy limit-setting within the work place and incorporating self-care with professional practice activities. 4. Select methods for incorporating self-care with professional practice activities and its effect on work-life balance. 5. Describe evidence-based best practices for creating positive culture change in practice settings.
