Weekly Preview- Triggerfish and Tiger Sharks

November 2 nd - 6 th , 2015

First of all, thank you to all the parents who attended our Parent-Teacher Conferences last week. It was great to meet you all and to discuss the progress of your child.

Thank you to Isai's mom, Felix’s mom, Nici's mom, Sophie’s mom, Finn's mom, and Eli's mom who jumped in and helped in the morning and afternoon during our Cultural Connections activity. Thanks also to the parents who brought in materials for us to use. The kids were excited, engaged, and learned a few crafting skills as well.

This is what we hope to accomplish this week. Thanks for your support at home, please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas.

UOI/Summative Assessment

This week, students will begin to do research on the tribe of their choosing using the N1-S1 research method they have been learning in class.

The following week, students will be creating a 3-D model of the tribe of their choosing based on their research. This model will show how their tribe lived in their environment, what shelters they had, what food they ate, what clothing they wore, and most importantly what affect settlers and explorers had on their people. Students are creating this project entirely in class with materials that will be available in the classroom.

On Tuesday, we’ll be introducing this project to the students and we’ll be brainstorming ideas in terms of what materials they may need. We would appreciate your help by bringing in some materials we may not already have in class. Once the list is created, we will create a sign-up genius so that we can be sure to have everything the kids will need. Language Arts

***English spelling and vocabulary is only for the Tiger sharks this week! ***

1. This week it’s the I-J words. Please support practicing these during the week at home so that your child will feel prepared to do well on Friday. All the vocabulary words are on Quizlet for them to practice.

2. Mouse and the Motorcycle will continue this week.

3. Our writing strand will focus on research for our Cultural Connections project.

German Language Arts

1. Spelling lists for the Triggerfish class this week only. Quiz is on Friday. Please remember that children are to write a sentence with each of the spelling words.

2. Students in the Tiger shark class will have their German Language Groups this week. As a reminder, the German Language Groups take place every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday immediately after lunch for about an hour. This is only for the class that is scheduled to have German in the afternoon.

3. We will continue to work on our new Unit of Inquiry about Native Cultures

Math

1. Today, we started Unit 4 in our textbooks. Students learned about multiplication as repeated addition. In the next few days we will learn about arrays, the commutative property, and problem solving with multiplication. Students will also create their only math problems using their multiplication skills.

2. You will also be seeing multiplication cards at home. Please, please, please practice and memorize on a daily basis!
