Announcement Proposal for New Academic Program

Pursuant to UPS 410.103, Curriculum Guidelines and Procedures: Programs, the Office of Academic Programs hereby announces receipt of the following new degree program proposals:

Name of Degree:

The Department of Anthropology has proposed four concentrations in the Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology degree:

Concentration in Archaeology Concentration in Cultural Anthropology Concentration in Evolutionary Anthropology Concentration in Linguistic Anthropology

Proposal Summary:

The department recommends adding the proposed concentrations to directly address the mission of CSUF, which is to provide students with “the best of current practice, theory, and research and to integrate professional studies with preparation in the arts and sciences.” The department wishes to build on its “four-field” approach to anthropology and assist students in selecting appropriate courses for specializing in any of the four areas.

The concentrations contribute specifically to preparation of students who plan to enter the workforce in one of the four areas. In addition, students will obtain the educational background and experience necessary to gain entry into and succeed in M.A. and Ph.D. programs. Each concentration will require 21 units of approved course work.

Deadline for Questions/Comments: The deadline for written questions or comments is Tuesday, February 16, 2010.
