Policy: Specialized Rescue

A. Specialized Rescue units will be utilized when confronted with circumstances where Extrication or specialized rescue is needed at the scene of an ambulance response, Where rescue of entrapped patient or body recovery is needed.

B. Ambulance personal should be aware of available resources from area agencies as well As from neighboring counties.

C. ______ambulance staff at a minimum should be aware of principles applied Governing use of tools and equipment for specialized rescue.

D. Strongly advised but not mandatory, all ambulance personal should be trained in Extrication and specialized rescue equipment and techniques.

Procedure: A. Notify communication center any time specialized rescue is needed and not enroute to Scene of incident.

B. Recognize need for any additional resources and area agencies and relay this need to Communication Center.

C. Implement Incident Command whenever incident involves multiple jurisdictions.

D. Provide needed patient care in professional manner, always aware of surrounding and Safety of patient and crew, ______ambulance staff are responsible for delegation and execution of patient care responsibilities at scene of incident.

E. Determine whether incident is rescue or body recovery,

F. Follow these steps if body is a recovery.

1. Maintain integrity of scene. 2. Maintain safe environment for preservation of body without causing further damage to deceased. 3. Remove all personal to maintain this integrity. 4. Notify communication center or ______ED of need for County Medical Examiner 5. Law enforcement or other agencies should be instructed to hold off incident Investigation until scene released by County Medical Examiner.

6. Have available Rescue units, Fire depts. Law Enforcement, and other area Agencies placed in staging area until needed for recovery and investigation.

7. Once released by coroner, necessary resources may be implemented to provide For investigation of incident and to provide for removal of body from entrapment.

8. Once body removed should be covered and placed in appropriate area while Awaiting arrival of funeral home. If incidence arises ambulance crew may be Summoned to transport body to funeral home. G. Include Rescue units with trained personal and tools to provide for rescue or recovery Of body as listed.
