Key Role & Activities

Job Description – H&S Manager 0517 Page 1 of 3 1. To meet legal and statutory Health and Safety requirements a. To coordinate the training of all staff, in all aspects of Health and Safety; b. To undertake Health & Safety Audits; c. To maintain appropriate registers of Health & Safety issues both in the shops and centrally at Head Office/Scotland; d. To advise on actions required to comply with statutory requirements.

2. To ensure all new and existing premises and other sites meet expected safety standards a. To co-ordinate the implementation of the charity’s Health and Safety Policy and to liaise with the charity’s appointed external consultants; b. To undertake Health & Safety Audits in conjunction with the Director of Retail, Head of Property, Regional and Area Managers and report findings; c. To oversee the maintenance of the Health & Safety Handbook in all premises; d. To ensure contractors are appointed to carry out testing and servicing of plant and equipment within all premises; e. To ensure that all activities undertaken by DEBRA (including fundraising and community activities) meet Health and Safety standards.

3. To coordinate and facilitate H&S training for all staff a. To attend and contribute to staff meetings when requested; b. To ensure DEBRA complies with Health and Safety across all activities; c. To liaise with the Regional / Area Managers and Head of Retail Administration with regard to the training of staff; d. To liaise with external consultants with regard to training of staff on Health & Safety matters; e. To assist with the development of training plans for Health and Safety within DEBRA shops, offices and all activities; f. To report to the Director of Retail and Chief Executive.

4. To liaise with a. Internal: Director of Retail, Senior Management, Finance and Operational Management Teams, Area and Regional Managers and HR; b. External: HSE, local authorities, external consultants and insurers.
