GORING C.E. PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

ISSUE: December 2014 Values The values that we are looking at this term are ‘Patience’ and ‘Trust’. Sporting Success Our KS2 running teams have achieved unprecedented success in the Woodcote cluster cross-country series. The Year 3/4 girls and Year 5/6 boys won their events whilst the Year 3/4 boys and 5/6 girls were runners up. The school team were convincing overall champions. We are now hoping for further success in The South Oxfordshire Championship next year. We recently entered 2 teams in the Woodcote cluster girls football tournament. Our first team, despite not losing a game or conceding a goal finished runners-up by the narrowest margin of 1 goal. The B-team, featuring several debutantes, exceeded all expectations by winning their competition. Christmas Dinner The Christmas Dinner will be on Wednesday, 17th December. The menu will be cranberry roasted turkey or creamy vegetable kiev served with a chipolata or vegetarian sausage and a yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, glazed carrots, brussel sprouts and peas with vegetarian gravy. Dessert will be Santa Claus ice creams and a cherry shortbread biscuit. There is no need to pre-order a Christmas Lunch, the cost of £2.10 should be paid in the normal way. Year 5 & 6 Carol Concert The carol concert will be held at St. Thomas’ Church at 7.00pm on Tuesday, 16th December. Children In Need 2014 The school council would like to thank everyone who contributed in helping to raise £403 for Children In Need. Shoebox Appeal Thank you to those that generously donated a Shoebox for the Operation Christmas Child Appeal. We collected over 50 boxes that will be sent to different destinations in time for Christmas. Eco Tip of the Month This time of the year is a prime opportunity to recycle Christmas trees. Christmas trees are usually shredded into chippings which are used in parks or woodland areas. Christmas cards or wrapping paper can easily be recycled in your green waste bins. PTA School Christmas Disco The PTA School Christmas Disco will be held on Friday, 12th December from 3.15pm – 4.15pm for the infants and from 4.30pm – 5.30pm for the juniors. The infants will be able to change into their own clothes in their classrooms before going to the disco. Please ensure any items of clothing are brought to school in the morning in a named bag. The children will be taken to the PE Hall by their teacher. Juniors will need to go home at the normal time of 3.15pm before returning at 4.30pm. If you have any questions, please contact Lara Bright on [email protected].
