SESSION 1 – 9:00-9:50 The Middle School Years Teacher: White Grades: 6th – 8th Congratulations! You have a pre-teen and have made it to the middle school years, so now what? Come learn about the key skills that all 6th, 7th & 8th graders need to be successful middle school students. This workshop will focus on creating a plan of attack for evaluating your student, addressing any needs and weaving key skills into your existing curriculum.

We will look at various Internet sites that use interactive lessons and activities. You will have an opportunity to explore and experiment with khanacademy.com as well as several other math websites.

Becoming a Writer Teacher: Bryant Grades: Primary As educators, we often wonder how to help our young students to become fearless writers. Join us for this workshop where you will learn strategies and techniques to inspire and motivate your primary grade students. This workshop will show you fun ways to introduce the writing process and methods that encourage and cultivate a desire to write.

Boys’ Brains vs. Girls’ Brains Grades: All Teacher: McFarland/McKendrick “I consider a person’s brain originally to be a little empty attic, and you have to stock it with such furniture as you choose!” -Sherlock Holmes, A Study in Scarlet. We all know that boys and girls learn differently. Welcome to an hour of learning the type of “furniture” to stock your child’s brain with. In this class you will discover fascinating facts and teaching techniques about boys’ brains and girls’ brains to help homeschool your child.

SESSION 2 – 10:00-10:50 Getting the Most Out of the Grid Teacher: Dragomanovich Grades: All Being handed that big crate of textbooks and grid materials at the beginning of the school year can be daunting. In this workshop, we will go over tips and strategies on how to best use the materials to turn the grid into an exciting and active blueprint for a successful school year.

Making Historical Timelines Teacher: Rosander Grades: 4th – 8th History timelines created and added to throughout the school year help the student make visual connections between events and serve as an at-a-glance reference tool. During this hands-on workshop we will be rolling out timeline paper, organizing time frames to be studied, and sharing ideas on how to make this valuable tool come alive. Come and jump into your history curriculum.

Mastering Facts with Flair Teacher: Bryant Grades: All A solid education begins with mastering the basic facts for every core subject. These vital facts are the building blocks that will provide a strong foundation of all future learning. In this workshop, we will discover many ways to incorporate daily practice into the school schedule, while keeping learning entertaining and fun!

Whole Brain Teaching Teachers: Johnson Grades: All Research shows that children retain more information when they put that information into their own words and gestures. Whole Brain Teaching is a system that allows students to do just that. It utilizes all areas of the brain, keeps children engaged, and improves memory. Come and learn about this exciting new way to teach! SESSION 3 – 11:00-11:50 Ugh! You mean I have to teach Math?!! Teacher: McKendrick Grades: 4th – 8th If this is something that you have said, or you just want to learn a little more about teaching Math then this is the class for you. Math is a different animal when it comes to learning/teaching and this class with help you to figure out how to teach it. Using a program to help your student move forward and showing you a few tricks to motivate your child will be the focus.

We will be learning how our school website can keep you connected and in the know with school news through: the NewsFlash, blog, social media, and Internet sites. You will come away with free learning tools, tips, and ideas which will enhance your homeschooling experience.

The Dream Team - You & Your Resource Teacher Teacher: White Grades: All Come to this workshop to learn tips and strategies for getting the most out of scheduled meetings with your resource teacher. Having a clear understanding of expectations and requirements will help you keep focused, stay organized and help build a great relationship with your resource teacher. Remember, your resource teacher is here to help make the homeschooling adventure an academic success.

Fun Writing Strategies Teacher: Prestage Grades: All “I don’t know what to write! Is this long enough?” Does this sound familiar? Is your upper grade student struggling with writing? In this workshop, you will learn some strategies that will take away much of the fear of writing. These strategies build on each previous lesson and will make writing more enjoyable for your child.
