White Bear Center for the Arts & Cerenity Senior Care Featured Artist: Patricia Choffrut

A native Minnesotan, Patricia Choffrut discovered her desire to paint from two decades of living in Provence. Provence is an old place. Patricia is tied to her own European roots and seeks to find visual expression for her ancestry. She is interested in the intrusion of humans into the natural world, how humans try to shape and change the landscape. Europe has offered her an excellent example of the beauty of the ages: old villages and towns, guarded traditions, and the bustle of every day modern living in these ancient settings.

Her paintings often include some kind of activity, like fishing or swimming or walking on a street. Some of the paintings offer the stillness of a landscape or a the reflections in a quiet river. Patricia is interested in the juxtaposition of movement and stillness, of Nature and human activity. She is trying to blend them with paint, as they are indeed blended in the reality of our world. “There is a joy for me in creating a visual piece of work. It can be revisited, like a letter from a friend. It is a testimony of some memory, some story, some feeling stronger than consciousness. “ Exhibitions, Awards Awards of Excellence: Hopkins Center for the Arts, 2016, Northstar Watercolor Society, 2010.
