South Pole Ice Core Science Coordination Office (SCO) METADATA FORM Dear South Pole Ice Core PI -

In an effort to standardize the information that is collected at the time of data submission to the SCO we have created this Metadata Form. Every time you submit a data set to the SCO you must also submit a completed Metadata Form.

Email the completed Metadata Form and the data set to [email protected]

Data Set Title: This is not the name of the electronic file itself, but rather a short name that describes the content of the data file. Example: Methane Isotopes from the South Pole Deep (SPC14) Ice Core

Data Set Version: (check only one) New – this data has NOT been submitted to the SCO before

Revised – this data has been submitted to the SCO before

If “Revised”, what is the name of the data file to be replaced?

If “Revised”, what has changed in this version of the data file compared to the previous version of the data file?

Date the Data Set was Created or Last Updated:

Investigator(s): Provide the name, affiliation, email address, and phone number for the point of contact(s) you want associated with the data set. The Principal Investigator(s) must be listed. In addition, you can also list other colleagues/collaborators/lab managers etc who are relevant points of contact for the data set.

Data Set Summary (include the core name, analyses, depth range, etc): Example: This data set includes methane (CH4) isotope data from the South Pole Deep Ice Core, SPC14, in Antarctica. The data include depth, gas age, and the isotopic composition of methane (∂13C and ∂D of CH4). The ice core was collected during the 2014-14 Antarctic field season. The CH4 isotope data was generated in 2015 using wet extraction methodology. Samples span the last 1,000 years, at a resolution of about 15 years. Data for samples above 69 meters were from firn air, and data below 69 meters from ice. The dating of the ice was based on continuous chemical analyses above 69 meters and Electrical Conductivity/Dielectric Property (ECM/DEP) measurements from ice. Dating uncertainty is estimated to be better than five years.
