Greenville, NC – ECU’s Beta Kappa Chapter was recognized as the number one chapter in the nation at the 40th Biennial Convention of Pi Omega Pi on Friday, April 6, and at the National Business Education Convention on Saturday, April 7, in NYC. The award was received through the Chapter Awards Competition for the 2006 competition year.

Pi Omega Pi is an honor society created to establish fellowship among students who are attaining a degree to become a business education teacher. Pi Omega Pi is one of 60 college honor societies affiliated with the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS). ACHS is the coordinating organization of the recognized collegiate honor societies which are regarded as having suitably high standards.

In competing for the award, Beta Kappa members submitted activities reports and articles to the “Here and There” newsletter four times during the year, and completed a local project, a regional project, and a national project. Additionally they produced a publication (alumni newsletter), completed an annual report, and conducted two initiations during the year.

Upon receiving this national award, Beta Kappa will now serve as the judging chapter for the projects in the next competition year.

Presently there are 18 students in the Beta Kappa Chapter at East Carolina University. Pi Omega Pi is the national honor fraternity for prospective business education students. Five students accompanied their faculty advisor, Dr. Ivan Wallace, to New York City for the Convention.
